It’s been a while since I’ve posted, but I’ve been deep in the shavings—quite literally. Over the last few months, I’ve fallen deep down the rabbit hole of woodturning, and it’s been an incredible stress reliever!

This bowl is turned from locally salvaged Claro Black Walnut, full of character, color, and story. The wood came from right here in the Paradise, from the Camp Fire . It’s wild to think something this beautiful could grow from so much destruction.

Every crack, void, and swirl tells a story. This is more than woodworking—it’s a story that will be told for generations.

One of the most fun projects that I have been able to do! My goal when I started wood working was to create tables or furniture that would become heritage pieces. One of my New Year’s resolutions that I wanted to do was to create night stands for each one of my kids with only two must haves in the design— 1) it needed to be a design that matched their personality 2) it needed to be engraved on the underneath with a handwritten note from me.

This design and inlays match my son through and through. He is bold, strong, steady and loves the “Star Wars” themed inlays.

ATTENTION!!!! it’s that time of year already for school auction. It doesn’t matter if it’s chess or checkers you are into because this board will work great in both. The board comes complete with the perfect date night kit; everything you need for the perfect s’more, including a with an amazing wine that pairs perfectly with all of it.

This particular oak slab is special due to a couple of things. One of them being that it was taken from one of only two historically registered oak trees in Paradise after the Camp Fire. The other is the approximate age of the tree being over 200 years old. If only this slab could talk!!! The chess pieces are cut from cut from the same oak tree and black walnut tree that make up the board.

One of the biggest honors I have ever been asked as a craftsman is getting to have the opportunity to mill Paradise cedar logs from the Camp Fire, for the “Welcome To Paradise” sign. To be able to harvest trees that were dying and damaged from the fire, and to be able to let them live on through reminders like this is the reason why I fell in love with making sawdust. Wether it’s with a chainsaw, a mill or a sander—this is my passion.

Better late then never. Here’s that walnut log that I posted about last week. Couldn’t be more happy about it! Can’t wait to see these slabs turn into tables, serving boards, and maybe even a chair or two. So many possibilities! I think I have time to figure it out, only 2 years for it to air dry.
