It’s been a REALLY good day. I’ve spent all day resting, meditating, praying. Just got through with a nice little workout 💪
Here’s a good Word for your Monday late afternoon / early evening by Todd Coconato
It’s Raining
Have you ever noticed that God often speaks through the language of nature? Throughout Scripture, rain is more than weather. It is a symbol of God’s blessing, provision, refreshing, and spiritual awakening. When the Bible speaks about the former rain and the latter rain, it is revealing something profound about how God works in seasons.
In the land of Israel, the former rain arrived in the autumn, softening the ground for planting. The latter rain came in the spring, helping the crops mature before harvest. Without both rains, there would be no fruitful harvest. This agricultural reality became a spiritual picture throughout Scripture.
The prophet Joel wrote:
“Be glad then, you children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God; For He has given you the former rain faithfully, And He will cause the rain to come down for you, The former rain, And the latter rain in the first month.” (Joel 2:23 NKJV)
The immediate context points to God’s restoration of Israel after a season of judgment. Yet the passage also looks beyond the natural and points toward a future outpouring of God’s Spirit. Just a few verses later, Joel declares that God will pour out His Spirit on all flesh, a prophecy that Peter would later connect to the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2.
The former rain can be understood as God’s initial outpouring. We see this beautifully fulfilled at Pentecost when the Holy Spirit was poured out upon the early Church. The disciples were empowered, thousands were saved, and the gospel began spreading throughout the world. It was a divine beginning, a spiritual planting season that launched the Church age.
The latter rain speaks of God’s continued work of refreshing, empowering, and preparing His people for harvest. While some have built entire doctrines around the latter rain that go beyond Scripture, the biblical principle remains clear: God desires His people to live under the continual influence and empowerment of the Holy Spirit.
James reminds believers:
“Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain.” (James 5:7 NKJV)
Notice that James connects the latter rain to preparation for harvest and the return of Christ. The focus is not on creating spiritual celebrities, special classes of believers, or extra-biblical revelations. The focus is on readiness, maturity, fruitfulness, and the gathering of souls before the Lord’s return.
Today, many believers sense that we are living in a time when God is stirring hearts once again. Across the world, people are hungry for authentic encounters with Jesus. Prayer gatherings are increasing. Salvations are multiplying. Young people are seeking truth. The Holy Spirit is drawing people back to the simplicity of the gospel and the power of God’s presence.
This does not mean we chase manifestations. We chase Jesus.
The true evidence of God’s rain is not merely emotional experiences. It is transformed lives. When God’s Spirit is poured out, repentance increases. Worship deepens. Prayer becomes fervent. The lost are saved. Marriages are restored. Bondages are broken. Believers become bold witnesses for Christ.
Rain always produces growth.
Perhaps you feel spiritually dry today. Maybe you’ve been walking through a difficult season. The good news is that God has not forgotten you. The same God who sends rain upon the earth is able to refresh your soul. He can soften hard places, heal wounded areas, and bring fresh life where things have seemed barren.
The Lord is still pouring out His Spirit. He is still calling people to Himself. He is still preparing a harvest.
The clouds are gathering.
The fields are ripe.
It’s raining. Hallelujah!!!
And wherever God’s rain falls, life follows.
