TONIGHT! Author Cal Hoffman will be signing copies of Easy to Slip from 500 to 630 at the Palm Beach Book Store

Winter, 1976, Columbia University. Hearing voices and seeing hateful writing on walls, early admission Sam Kovner walks the New York streets, sleepless thirty-six hours. Through the radiant specificity of memory, he reckons with a hard-driving father, a caring, sometimes careless mother, a generous, self-involved uncle who’s just become a movie star, and star-struck grandparents. Sam fears the undertow of feelings: he’s not quite spent the night with someone he’s fallen for. Home for high-school graduation, a prom night affair reminds Sam of how he once knew love, freeing him to face his encroaching psychosis. Entering a hospital, he confronts traumatic, repressed memories with unflinching courage. With irrepressible humor and pathos, Easy to Slip recalls an era when youth mattered and people healed from psychiatric illness.

Join us tonight Tuesday 2/25 at 5:00 pm as we welcome author Julie Gilbert

From the feature:
“The life and work of a beloved award-winning author is at the heart of a new book written by her great-niece — who happens to be a mainstay in Palm Beach County’s arts and culture scene. Author Julie Gilbert will present her new book “Giant Love,” about Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist and playwright Edna Ferber, in events this month at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts and the Palm Beach Book Store. Gilbert is known locally for leading an annual winter Writers’ Academy at the Kravis Center.”

About the book:
In Giant Love, author/playwright Julie Gilbert, Ferber’s great-niece, explores Ferber’s writing of the controversial international bestseller, “Giant.” The novel set off a storm of protest over its portrayal of Texas manners, money and mores with oil-rich Texans threatening to shoot, lynch or ban Ferber from ever entering the state again upon its publication in 1952.

Looking forward to hosting this Thursday! A part time Palm Beacher, he was named 2016 top designer by Nashville Lifestyles Magazine. Jonathan Savage’s first book—with a linen cover and foil stamping—is a luxury presentation. In it, Savage writes about his design philosophy. “I believe that the classical principles of design—balance, harmony, form, proportion scale, repetition, contrast—are foundational, enduring, and immutable. And I follow them always—even when I break what other people consider to be the rules,” he says. He designs homes to be welcoming, comfortable to live in, and beautiful in every way. His passion is for contemporary design with a fresh approach, but contemporary does not always mean all-neutral, minimal rooms. He uses layers, art, fabrics, furnishings, and décor to banish any thoughts of a cold, sparsely decorated home.
