Good morning everyone. For most who saw me at the Farmer's Market at the tale end of it in September know that I had a broken foot while I was doing it. I had been waiting for my doctors appointment to open my website unfortunately because I got frustrated with the situation and felt the pressure to get product out my foot did not heal right and very early on everything shifted. Due to this everything had to be rebroke in my ankle and foot. I am truly sorry but this time I am taking the necessary time to heal properly. I will be unable to open the website at this time. I know people order these products as Christmas gifts and feel like by rushing this by feeling the pressure I let people down and for that I am truly sorry. I should have taken the time to heal the first time around instead of being told I needed to do the Farmer's Market because Choke Cherry Trees had been closed for to long know I shouldn't have been up on a broken foot. I am truly sorry for not being able to open the website at this time and hope everyone understands.

Hi everyone I will be at the Farmer's Market at the St Patrick's Church on South Pagosa Blvd this Saturday. It runs from 9-1. It is the last Farmer's Markey then hopefully I will have my website up and running. I will have Choke Cherry Jam thanks to a wonderful lady that sold me some choke cherries. I am hoping the gentleman that has stopped by the last couple weekends follows on Facebooks so he sees this and will come and can get his jam.

I have sent the last of the pictures for the website to my IT personal. I am hoping in the next couple of weeks the website will be up and running so people can start ordering online. I will not have a store front at this time. I have worked it out with some businesses for locals to pick up their orders. I will be shipping as well. So you don't have to wait to come to Pagosa Springs to get your treats.

“To make life sweeter one person at a time because the best way to help yourself is to help others” - Choke Cherry Tree Mission Statement (full version at bottom)
Specialty gourmet food experience making old fashioned caramels and chocolates along with jams, jellies, vinaigrettes, fruit syrups, fruit butters, salsas and more. Nothing says "I love you" like our "poops"! Come in and try our samples. Browse the kitchenware and gadgets to conveniently make your home a place of family contentment.
The story began with a teenager and his grandmother then a single mother and a house fire. When “Grandpa Bill” was 14 his grandmother taught him how to make strawberry jam - and he was hooked. After that he made jam or jelly out of just about everything he could think of! He started in Pagosa Springs with a fruit stand selling fresh produce from his residence of Grand Junction and guess what happened to his over ripe produce. The turning point is when he started selling more jams and fruit butters than produce and The Choke Cherry Tree store was officially opened in 1999. The first winter they had no snow until New Years day - and no tourists which meant no customers; so Bill passed the time by reading candy books and experimenting with candy. The first few batches weren't anything out of the ordinary, but he kept after it and came up with a winner - our wonderful homemade caramels. Chocolate, Almond Toffee and new fruit syrups, vinaigrettes, sauces, salsas and new jam flavors followed through out years.
In 2003 Bill hired Jenelle as temporary help during the Holiday season since the baby was due in January. After finding out that she was one of the fastest caramel wrappers they had for some time he contracted her to wrap caramels at home after the baby was born. Six months later he needed more help at the store he told her “just bring the kid”. That was when Jenelle was taught by Bill to continue the traditions. With a built in taste tester on her back until he was about a year and a half old, she learned all the recipes and techniques to take over all the cooking. Creating a few new ones along the way! "Grandpa" Bill Goddard passed away Friday, May 23, 2008 after touching many, from his involvement with numerous charities to his genuine concern and interaction with his loyal customers. We all miss his unique personality and sense of humor. His long time partner Connie Bunte kept things going though.
After going through a house fire while becoming a single mother Jenelle was ready to take on more so she purchased the business from Connie after working for her for over 10 years (8 of which was doing all of the cooking). Like the surrounding forest invigorated by a fire, The Choke Cherry Tree has continued to grow and expand its selections, operations (including a refurbished caramel wrapping machine over 90 years old) and community involvement in even more ways than Bill had imagined. Opening its kitchen to other chefs and learners has added a whole new depth of experience through an assortment of classes. That is worth a piece of high quality chocolate! We hope to see you soon!
Choke Cherry Tree Mission Statement: To make life sweeter one person at a time through honesty, reliability, quality, kindness, diligence, variety, personal interest, community support and involvement, personal improvement and customer service because the best way to help yourself is to help others.
