There is nothing quite like the pure satisfaction of a perfectly flat quilt block where all your sharp corners and seams lock together like magic. If you are spending your August afternoons piecing intricate blocks or working through a beautiful new layout, here is a quick tip to instantly elevate your piecing game:

Always set your seams before you press them to the side!

Before you flip your fabric open, press your hot iron directly over the stitches exactly as they came off the sewing machine. Setting the seam relaxes the thread into the fabric fibers, smoothing out any minor tension puckers. Then, open the block up and press it to one side. It prevents tiny, hidden fabric folds and ensures your quilt top lies beautifully flat every single time!
