Bricktown shave day! It’s been getting warmer here so a cool and classic shave was required. And Medicine Crow is just that. Teak, bergamot, and lily of the valley star in this nod to the 40’s and 50’s era and the Greatest Generation. The one who personifies that is Joe Medicine Crow who was the last Plains Indian War Chief. He passed his trials while fighting the N***s in WWII. Doesn’t get much cooler than that.

I met David from B&D at this year’s Phoenix meet up. He’s a great guy and has become a good friend. Oh, did you know he makes ridonculous porcelain shave bowls? These things are high class. Definitely something that can be an heirloom.

The meet up soap from RE is so good. Bay rum with some smooth leather. Can’t get much more classic than that. The typical DJ soap performance is evident right away too!

My razor was the first modern straight I bought. A beautiful 8/8 Dovo from their Arena series. I love the black blade and lion design. And I especially love the stabilized birch scales.

Gardner made an awesome mix for this Arjuna brush. Arjuna is a demigod and hero in Indian mythology. And while he is from India and Joe Medicine Crow is from America, they are 2 bad ass heroes!

Happy shaving!

Bricktown Bourbon Day!! It’s getting warmer but it’s always a good day for a fine bourbon scent. And Valley Forge brings just that. Bourbon soaked sandalwood is what you’re gonna smell, and want more of. Named after ol’ George Washington’s estate, which had a distillery, of course.

Paul Trotter helped me name Valley Forge so it’s only fitting that one of his brushes made an appearance. And not just any brush, my FIRSTTrotter! British racing green and pearl, in an almost quintessential Trotter pour, is topped with one of his synthetic knots. Such a great brush!

I brought in Shannon’s Cedar Vanilla soap. And the perfect performance is what’s come to be expected from any Elysian brand! Maybe we can start a petition to bring this scent back! Who’s comin with me!

And finishing it off is Lattafa’s Asad Bourbon. Think bourbon and oud mixed to perfection!

Happy shaving!

Bricktown, baby! Time for where a fine shave with one of my earliest fragrances, Lafayette. Named for a personal fried of George Washington (and my 12x great uncle), Lafayette was a young French officer who was instrumental in the Revolution. It’s a barbershop with a soft, French, powdery twist. A true fan favorite, so totally worth checking out! And no cologne needed with the usual Bricktown Grooming strength!

I went with Sir Hare today. The best bang for your buck, and available on amazon. It’s a classic barbershop scent and a great lather. I threw in some menthol drops since it’s been hot as hell lately.

My hardware is my first Drew Dick, a 9/8” French point (see the theme) with purple heartwood scales. Truly a thing of beauty. And a NOS burma shave brush. Great boar knot in this guy!

And closing my shave out, as usual, is The Shave Supply Beaumont Shaving Company beard oil. The best skin food beard oil out there. And it’s unscented so it goes with everything.

Happy shaving!

Bricktown fun shave! I finally got a bottle of Polo Red, which is one of my favorite scents of all time. So I pulled out an aftershave using a dupe oil and had a hell of a shave. If anyone is looking for an aftershave of a popular cologne scent, send me a message. I may just have the oil to match!

An OG Black Beauty 109 with the original gold plating for a show stopping BBS. And a candy apple red brush from Alpha Shaving is one of the coolest brushes in my den. Sleek lines in a nod to the Rubberset 4 make this a personal favorite. The badger knot in this has broken in so well and makes a perfect lather.

The Grapefruit soap from Joe was just right to pair as well. The tart citrus of grapefruit is the main player but he added a deep red and sweet plum to his scent profile. I feel that was an amazing idea that totally worked! Well done!

Happy shaving everyone!

Happy belated St. Patrick’s Day from Bricktown Grooming! Life decided to life so my fine Irish shave had to wait a couple days. And here we are! Irish Brigade was all over the place this year, so long after the release, that it warmed my heart. I’m so happy to see people still love my GIT dupe and nod to the Fighting 69th Brigade from the Civil War.

I may have mailed Joe Dean the oils but he worked his magic (completely expected, btw) and made a damn fine soap for this limited release. Seriously, you can never go wrong with a Subtle Art soap in your shave.

With the love of all things green comes a brush from Cody. The dark paduak wood, brass inserts, vibrant green middle and gorgeous pearl ferrule makes this one of my favorite brushes. Add a soft black badger knot to the equation and there’s no way to go wrong.

Last, but certainly not least, comes a beautiful Spanish point from Drew. A 9/8” blade with masur birch scales and white inserts makes this a work of art. I only wish I could take a pic that did the scales justice. They’re freakin beautiful!

I didn’t picture the Barrett’s edp of Green Hills. Such a perfect scent!!!

Happy shaving and Happy St. Patrick’s Day (belated)!

Having a good old time with some dupe oils that came in. I made a couple bottles for Lina and then made myself a D&G Light Blue aftershave (Wild Blue Yonder), Polo Red (Big Red One), and a B&BW Mahogany and Teakwood (The Wardroom…still not sold on this name). They’re dupes and it’s always fun having a nice splash added to the rotation.

Gardner’s Siren’s Envy brush did well with the challenging Caswell Massey cream. I still don’t have the technique down to get a quality lather. But with some standalone splashes I’ll keep messing with it. Rós is a beautifully scented cream with pine notes. I definitely recommend picking some up!

And then the ‘69 Black Beauty 109 in gold. I love this razor. I know the trade happened long ago but a huge thanks to for sending me this razor. I promise to continue to show it some love!

Shave like a boss. Smell even better.

Bricktown Grooming shave post-meet up! I’m gonna start by saying what an absolute blast it was to meet old and new friends. Especially David from Brousseau & Dov who makes the classiest shave bowls in the game. This bowl is pure porcelain with hand painted and classic tattoo designs, plus gold trim. I had to go with Sea Dog. What a beautiful triple mast on the front and some sea worthy tools on the back. The elegant design in the bottom performed better than anticipated. With these bowls you certainly get what you pay for, class and sophistication.

Keeping it classic is Medicine Crow. Teak, bergamot, and lily of the valley blend to create a scent I feel is true Americana. And it’s named for the last Plains Indian War Chief, Joe Medicine Crow. He became a War Chief while fighting the N***s in Europe! Seriously, look him up.

Mid Cape Barber is such a pure and traditional barbershop scent. Joe Dean did such an amazing job with this one. And the Subtle Art performance rings true yet again. A healthy lather with the perfect amount of glide.

Some truly vintage items here (to match the classic scents and bowl) are my W&B FBU straight. A pre-1891 razor makes it an heirloom. And my favorite part is the deep hone wear. This wasn’t kept in a drawer, it was used, a lot. I love that. And then a Century brush refinished by yours truly. The fat 28mm black badger knot is always a winner in my book.

And the usual close out is The Shave Supply Beaumont Shaving beard oil. It’s definitely one of the best out there. If you know, you know. If you don’t know, go online, pick some up, and educate yourself!

Happy shaving!

BRICKTOWN DAY! Rain and cooler temps are on the horizon here in SoCal so I figured a warm and spicy scent was the perfect answer. No Quarter is my version of a bay rum. A bit less clove and bay but heavier on the spices for a fine pirate splash. Did you know that it was customary to ask for a quarter of a prisoner’s salary (normally an officer type) as ransom? When “no quarter” was called, that meant no one was safe!

I seriously can’t find a better soap for pairing No Quarter with than Bay Rum from Joe Dean at Subtle Art Soap. His take is higher in the citrus content so it blends just right with No Quarter’s spiciness. And the performance is perfection, too!

Keeping with my pirate theme is my Prospector set from Cody. He made the handle and scales from oak and a beautifully done resin that reminds me of the blue Caribbean waters. Check him out on Etsy or IG!

And hows about that bowl! A gift from a much better looking Phil. And the size is huge with perfect swirls for a hell of a lather.

Happy shaving!

Bricktown party time! My girl and I headed to Sacramento this weekend for my company end of year party. The perfect time to make a statement with Valley Forge. Boozy, woody, and a little sweet, this bourbon inspired scent was just the thing. It paired so well with the old fashioneds that just kept coming, lol. Did you know George Washington had a distillery on Valley Forge?

I brought up the Rex Ambassador, to keep it swanky and all, and used my Christmas present. The blue and gold Rex Supply razor case. This thing looks so sleek. I highly recommend picking one up. And an Ambassador too, while you’re at it!

Mid Cape Barber from the mind of Joe Dean is one of those utilitarian soaps. And that is not playing it down at all. It goes with every scent and the performance is so consistently reliable. Plus it smells super good too!

And why not add that pop of color with an Alpha brush? I got the matte blue ferrule and threw a white boar knot in there because America.

Happy shaving everyone!
