SOLD: No. 897 Skully, mahogany. This wand was a commission, the 2nd two photos are the inspiration I was sent, I wanted to try to make something very similar, within my idiom. I wanted to keep it wood, grain but the patron wanted it white washed. So I did as the client wished, and it turned out swell, very similar to the original image. Will likely try a variation on this in the future. Maybe a raven skull, or gargoyle, or demon, or lion. Maybe a series, who knows.

I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted, I feel like the winter sapped my spirit, and my creativity. But as the trees bud and bloom, so does spirit. I’ve been In the shop a few days this week, and have some new pieces. I did enjoy but the structure of creating 31 theme based wands took a toll on thought of artistic form and design. This selection is a little treat to myself. My favorite style of wand to create is the function follows free-form carving. The shape is the important element. And one of my favorite woods to carve is walnut. So I did a group of hand drawn specimens in walnut. It felt fun and unrestrictive. www.graymagicwoodworking.com
