Main Street Ottumwa was designated as an Iowa Main Street Program in June of 2006.

As everyone in the community deserves a great downtown, this program is a revitalization effort focusing on the central business district in Ottumwa. The Mission of Main Street Ottumwa is to strengthen and revitalize Ottumwa's Central Business District using the comprehensive Main Street Four-Point Approach.

When heat waves hit, the way we build matters.

Traditional downtowns put more destinations within a compact, walkable area. That means less surface parking, more shared walls and more opportunities for shade. Street trees, storefront awnings and buildings close to the sidewalk all help make the trip from one door to the next a little more comfortable.

Our historic downtown gives Ottumwa a strong foundation. By maintaining public spaces and helping building owners restore heat-beating features like awnings, Main Street does our part to keep downtown cool.

Mark your calendars for Central Park Cinema: Hoppers.

Our next free movie in the park will be Pixar's Hoppers on August 8th. Hoppers is a heartwarming story of connection between humans and animals, perfect for the family. This Tuesday, we welcomed a great group of Job Corps students to downtown Ottumwa to learn about Main Street Ottumwa and downtown revitalization.

We're always encouraged to meet young people who have chosen to invest in themselves by building new job skills and preparing for successful careers. Thanks for spending the day with us. We're excited to see what the future holds for this outstanding group!

Such a fun meet-up for the Downtown Lunch Club yesterday! A special welcome to first-time attendee Tim Seeberg, the new Executive Director at BVC, who shared a bit about his plans to bring some exciting new entertainment to town.

The next Lunch Club will be August 27th at the Owls Nest Bar and Grill.
