Dishwashers. To get the best performance from your dishwasher it needs 120 degree water entering it. Run the hot water at the sink until hot then start dishwasher. The dishwasher will fill with hot water, when the heater comes on it'll heat the water to 138 degrees, that's the temperature that kills most bacteria. If water enters at 72 degrees, it'll never reach 138 degrees. Hot water also dissolves the soap. The hotter water also helps with drying the dishes, with rinse aid. All dishwashers need rinse aid to assist with drying the dishes.
Clean the filter at the bottom of the tub, turn it left then pull it out, some are pretty nasty, with a lot of soap build up, need HOT water to dissolve soap and the pods.

If using the self clean feature on your ovens, use it 2 weeks before the holiday to make sure you have an oven for the holiday. The high temps during self clean could disable the oven.

A new basket versus an old busted one. That is soap build up on the shaft assembly, rotting it out until it breaks. The tub the basket is in also will look like this. Soap needs warm/hot water to dissolve and, new washers don't need a lot of soap as they don't use a lot of water. Use Affresh once a month in your washer to keep it clean, use hot water once in a while to dissolve soap and scum, and use LESS SOAP! This is the same for both top load and front load washers. In top load washers I scrape the soap build up in the bottom of the tub with a putty knife. Looks like grease and it stinks.

Clean your dishwasher filters! That is hair on it. This build up is on all newer dishwashers, I really noticed it after pods came out so it could be the pods are not dissolving. It also looks like this when I take the sump apart where you can't see it. All newer dishwashers require 120 degree water. Run the hot water at the sink until the water is hot, in some larger homes it seems like it takes 20 minutes to get hot water, then turn on the dishwasher. With 120 degree water the dishwasher heater will heat the water to 138 degrees, that's the temperature that kills most bacteria. If water enters at 70 degrees it will NEVER reach 138 degrees, the dishwasher would have to run for hours to reach that temp. The hot water will dissolve the soap and clean the dishes and with stainless steel tubs improve drying.

Don't let your generator kill your refrigerator. Power spikes can blow out the refrigerator control boards and other low voltage components. Plug the refrigerator in AFTER the generator starts and unplug the refrigerator BEFORE turning off the generator.

ATTENTION-CAUTION-BEWARE!!!
Search engines like google list "local" appliance service companies and they have great websites. They are NOT local, they are a referral service. Check their websites carefully, on their websites they say they're a referral service. These companies get your credit card upfront and collect their fee and refer a local "technician". These "technicians" will take your money and rip you off. You call the company you hired and that's when you find out that they are a referral service and they cannot help you.
They tell you to contact the "technician" that came to your house but you can never get ahold of them. We are local, our address is on our website, if you have a problem you can come to our office and yell at Holly. That has never happened as we don't want Holly to get yelled at but WE ARE LOCAL and care about your repair satisfaction. It's disheartening hearing how people spend couple of hundred dollars to get their appliance repaired to only get ripped off and find us to help them. If any company asks for a credit card upfront, CALL SOMEONE ELSE!
