For those who haven't heard of it, Solvej Balle's On the Calculation of Volume series is one of those rare sleeper hits.

A more literary and emotional take on the "character repeats the same day" time loop, Balle's series is set over seven volumes (like seven days of the week) and is "a profound meditation on the lonely, untranslatable ways in which each one of us inhabits time—and the tenuous yet indelible traces we leave in the world."—Hernan Diaz

Four of the seven volumes are out in the US so far (making this gorgeous color transition over the covers), with the fifth out in November, giving you plenty of time to catch up and eagerly anticipate the next volume like the rest of us. Trust me, each volume is the length of a novella, it won't take long for this story to captivate you.

Happy National Alligator Day! And, yes, they do have a day for themselves!

Much like sharks, they have lived through several different extinction events with very little design changes and totally get a bad rep. But they're important part of the ecosystems they live in as apex predators. So, yeah, I think they deserve a day for themselves.

To celebrate, we're highlighting a new alligator title, See You Later ... by April Suddendorf. An alligator decides to leave the swamp and spend the day indoors... which might not be the best of plans.
