This beautiful 1905 Mason & Hamlin upright has over 120 years of history behind it. Ideally, a piano of this age would undergo a complete restoration — but in this case, our goal is something a little different: carefully refurbishing the piano to preserve as many original parts as possible while giving it renewed life for the next decade or two.
Rather than replacing everything, we’ll be restoring and improving the components that can still serve this instrument well. The work will include:
🎹 Reconditioning the original keys
🎹 Replacing worn key bushings
🎹 Reshaping the hammers
🎹 Thorough internal cleaning
🎹 Replacing bridal straps
🎹 Regulation, voicing, alignment, and tuning
Structurally, this piano is in encouraging condition for its age — the soundboard is free of major cracks, and the bridges show no significant issues. While this refurbishment won’t bring the piano to its absolute full potential, it will dramatically improve the touch, tone, stability, and longevity of the instrument while honoring its original character.
We’re excited to share the transformation as this heirloom piano begins its next chapter. 🎹
