Things found in old books is a weekly segment where we show you curious ephemera that we’ve discovered while processing used books. Found inside a set of Charles Dickens books: two forgotten photographs, a chatty news clipping and a pressed four-leaf clover.
We are a general used bookstore in Orange California. We opened the doors in 1990.

We’re so happy to have Cindy Rinne show her wonderful quilts at the Bookman! Stop by the shop to view up close these wonderful works of art. More about Cindy:
Cindy Rinne creates fiber art, zines, and poetry in San Bernardino, CA. She uses a connective process that gathers fabrics from around the world creating a whole that brings the viewer into intimacy, mystery. Rinne was awarded an art and writing residency at The Ou-Telier Artist Residency on Vancouver Island, Canada in 2026. Her artworks have been exhibited in “Split Ends,” Orange Coast College, Costa Mesa, CA; “Resurrection: Beckoning the Crone,” Orange County Center for Contemporary Art, Santa Ana, CA; “World of Threads Festival,” Ontario, Canada; “Beloved Planet, The Makery, LA, CA; “Reimagining Conservation,” National Museum of Wildlife Art, Jackson Hole, WY, and more. Three things found in old books: a William Castle “Ghost Viewer” from 13 Ghosts, a 1950 Saskatchewan refugee photograph tied directly to a postwar immigration history, and a Philadelphia automat matchcover tucked inside a murder paperback. We are a general used bookstore in Orange California. We opened the doors in 1990.
