Micone Ranch

Micone Ranch Hi my name is Tamara. We bought this place to be self sufficient and to sell meat and eggs. We created a safe space for travelers/campers to spend the night.

Pigs got some crouton like squares of really good bread cause we did not eat it fast enough. We have almost zero food waste because we raise animals.

I never let food spoil or mold and give it to them. If it reaches that point the trash can gets it. But my fear of that happening makes me rethink portions and who’s going to eat it closely. Pappa Micone often laments the pigs got the leftovers before he did because I rotate things out rather quickly. 🤣

I think though that the animals enjoy the hard bread, wilted spinach, fruit that’s lost its crunch. They don’t know to expect it store fresh. They just know they get something tasty they don’t usually have. I love seeing them eat with gusto as the root through the normal hydrated ground pig feed to get the tasty morsels I sometimes mix in. ❤️

What a great start to the summer camping calendar. Every dot is a reserved day. The slashes are days we blocked off because we have personal plans. I am feeling very blessed. I love meeting our campers. I love knowing they are safe for the night and we are providing a good experience for them. HipCamp as a platform is not perfect but it works for us. If you are traveling through Ontario Oregon check us out. If we have a vacancy we would love to meet you!

Got half of the deep litter in the summer coop removed and place for use. It sat from November till now decomposing even more so it’s dense and heavy.

Put a good amount around the plum tree and the chestnut tree I planted today. The rest are in piles in an area I am going to plant corn. I am going to let the piles continue to break down until I’m ready to plant.

When I plant I will even it out and the put soil in the area the seed will grow in. As the plant grows it will root into the rich fertilized material and grow strong plants.

Today’s task. Won’t complete it today but I am hoping to make a big dent in the task.

My raspberries are starting to multiply. I bought 4 plants 2 years ago. I spaced each plant out 5 ft apart. I have to hand trim the grass around the plants to avoid wee whacking new starts. Eventually I will have a natural fence along this area.
