Xavier Jackson is doing cool stuff!
In recognition of , UNO CBA is recognizing Black faculty, students, alumni, and community members making an impact in Omaha and beyond.
Today, we're proud to feature Xavier Jackson, founder of The Local Art Plug. Local Art Plug aims to give a platform to Omaha-area artists while creating connected and accessible art communities. We asked Jackson what it was like being a business owner in the Omaha community, what motivates him, and why it's important for an organization like his to be based here.
"Getting started is definitely a difficult task, but if you look hard enough in every corner of Omaha, you can find mentors and people willing to contribute to your success," said Jackson. "The idea of building generational wealth and being my own boss motivates me to keep charging forward. What really keeps me going on those tough days is knowing that I’m a source of inspiration to my siblings and peers.
"I founded my business with the goal of making art accessible in Omaha by finding ways to help local artists not only grow, but thrive in a city they love, while pursuing their passion without having to move to a larger city. It’s important for companies like mine to exist because we help fill in the gaps left behind by larger corporations and non-profits."
