Vin's Bug Shoppe

Vin's Bug Shoppe Disabled Veteran, Retired Waterways Conservation Officer for the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission who ties and sells flies

Posting flies for sale or just for you to look at. I do not stockpile flies for sale, most--if not all orders are tied PER ORDER. Most orders can ship within' a day or two depending on material availability and quantity of order. Flies come from a SMOKE-FREE home. This is part of my guide business located in Berks County Pennsylvania. Trout, Salmon and Steelhead flies are what I love to tie. Dries

, Streamer, nymphs......love them all. The buggier the fly, the better !! Flies are designed to be impressionistic, not exact replicas. I do have my own ties: Mothra, Death Stonefly, DSS Streamer, Beadtail Caddis, Hatcher and Crazy Spawn. I do have an AAS degree from Garrett College in Natural Resources and Wildlife Technology and I spent 13 months being trained by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission to become a Waterways Conservation Officer. To my knowledge, I am the only Disabled Veteran / Retired Waterways Conservation Officer turned guide in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. If you have an idea for a fly that you want tied, get me the details and I'll see if I can't bring that fly to life. Or, if there are certain colors you want on a pattern, let me know what they are and I'll try to get the job done. When you purchase flies from me, you are helping an American Family. My children, Zoe and Vinny love the great outdoors as much as I do. They tie a few flies and love to fish. Everybody always posts how long they have been tying flies.....welp-- either you can tie flies or you can't.......but, I've been tying since around 1997 under the tutelage of Harold Harsh and Alan Noland of Spring Creek Outfitters ---

Although Diabetes has tweaked my eyesight a bit, I still get the job done on super tiny flies with the help of magnified reading glasses. I also write a monthly article for the Reading Eagle pertaining to Fly of the Month and or what patterns you should have in your fly box for the upcoming month.

Very good few hours. 630 to about 915, then the rain fell. Wild Trout then to the Manny.

No hatches, but saw a few Lime Sallys, caddis, pink cahill, light cahill, dorothea sulphur.

I was fishing a tandem rig with a pink cahill emerger with a sulphur soft hackle below it. Lost so many fish, barbless hook? One was a tank wild brown that took drag. Those flies worked on Manatawny too. Near no rises. Switched to a spent spinner and dorothea dry. Landed a nice brown that crushed a spent spinner.

They were sipping midges. Near zero bugs in the air. Once I stopped force feeding them dries, kicked some fin with a beadhead caddis emerger.

Erik and I headed to Carbon County. Fished a few streams, they felt lifeless for the most part. Plenty of hiking and it was a wet wading type of day. I was lucky to land a micro brookie!!! Hit Manatawny. Fish going gonzo. I finally figured it out, and it ended!! Beautiful scenery all day long.

Recently tied flies all worked. Smashing light cahill flies, sulphur emergers and a fish landed at 920pm on a spent spinner. As it went lights out, sulphurs galore. 8 foot 5wt Targus Borger rod had a hard time picking up line. I was planning on hitting a Class A stream with the Targus. Scraped up a Pink Cahill off the water and tons of black caddis swarming me in the dark. So, sulphurs, cahills, BWO, caddis and fairly certain I nabbed a H**E- but way early for them.

Being a dirt poor Coal Region kid, the one thing that always made me smile, were all the magazines and fishing catalogs that were addressed to me. Many lifetimes later, and I still smile when something shows up.
