Beato Chocolates is more than just a chocolatier - it is a celebration of the vibrant spirit and artistic legacy of Beatrice “Beato” Wood. As the "Mama of Dada", Wood lived a life filled with passion, humor, and a love for all things creative. She attributed her longevity to "art books, chocolate, and young men", and we are honored to pay homage to her with our range of fine, creative chocolates.

At Beato Chocolates, we strive to embody the spirit of Beato by using her original molds and incorporating Dada influenced lines of confections into our creations. We source local ingredients whenever possible, ensuring that each bite is a true taste of the community that inspired us.

An ornate piece of jewelry, a sketchbook drawing, pushing your lover off a small scrap of a sinking sink…The movie Titanic has become a classic Hollywood tribute to romance. When James Cameron was making the movie, Beatrice Wood’s rebellious, uncompromising, and romantic nature served as the inspiration for the character of “Rose.”

Tonight at 4:00, in honor of love, the Ojai Playhouse is screening Titanic and serving our Titanic inspired chocolate bar (flavored with Rose and Sea Salt). Stop by and enjoy.

🎨 The Dadaist Spirit of Beato Chocolates 🍫

Beatrice Wood was more than an artist—she was a rule-breaker, a provocateur, and a woman who lived life on her own terms. She credited chocolate (and young men) for her longevity, living vibrantly until the age of 105. Inspired by her insatiable appetites and artistic vision, Beato Chocolates is our homage to her legacy—where art meets indulgence in the most delicious way.

Wood was a pivotal figure in the Dada movement, collaborating with Marcel Duchamp and Henri-Pierre Roché to create The Blind Man, a publication that famously defended Duchamp’s controversial ready-made urinal, The Fountain. Wood’s sharp wit gave us the now-legendary statement:

"As for plumbing, that is absurd. The only works of art America has given are her plumbing and her bridges."

She also designed the Blind Man stick figure, a silhouette thumbing its nose at the art world—an image that graced both the magazine cover and the 1917 Blind Man’s Ball poster.

At Beato Chocolates, we channel this same fearless creativity, turning Wood’s rebellious artistry into handcrafted, Fair Trade Certified chocolates that celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy that continues to inspire.

In collaboration with the Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts, we’ve re-created her ceramic molds into exquisite chocolate sculptures, transforming her work into ephemeral, edible art. Each confection also features Wood’s expressive drawings and pithy witticisms, carrying forward her playful, rebellious spirit.
