Ocala parents & teachers … I need your input!

I keep thinking about the event space we set up at A Novel Idea that sits empty during the week. So I’m considering using it between events to offer FREE tutoring/homework help for local students.

Before I turn this into A Whole Thing 😂, I need to know if there’s actually a need for it.

Parents: Would you use free after-school or Saturday tutoring at the bookstore? What grades/subjects would you need help with?

Teachers, retired teachers & high-school students: Would you ever be interested in volunteering as a tutor?

I’m just exploring the idea right now; before we start a non-profit sub arm 🤩 …. but I’d love to know what our community actually needs. ❤️

Okay, first of all… THANK YOU. 💖

The support you guys have shown us lately has been absolutely INSANE. You’re showing up for the events, filling the store, buying books, bringing friends, sharing our posts; and after 19 years in business, it feels like we’re building something completely new over here! We sold HALF of the “Banned Books” we ordered just TODAY. 🫶

So now I want to know what ELSE you want us to do!

We’ve done bookish crafts, and I’d love to start bringing in people to teach other fun things too.

ROMANCE READERS — we need your opinions because we are about to do a BIG overhaul of our romance section. 👀

We want MORE new romance, more complete series, more books face-out, and basically a section you actually want to wander around in instead of walking straight past half the shelves 😂

❤️ Do you like romance separated into categories like historical, paranormal, dark romance, contemporary, romantasy, etc. or would you be perfectly happy with everything together alphabetically?

Would you be okay with NEW and USED books shelved together if the new books were VERY clearly marked? (So you could actually browse an entire author/series in one place!)

Basically: if we are going to tear apart the romance section we’ve had forever and rebuild it for the way romance readers shop NOW… tell us what you want.

No wrong answers. We genuinely want to hear opinions before I make Shawn move approximately 47 billion books. 😂

We don’t usually get political here, but we will always take a stand against censorship. 📚

Teen books deal with teen realities; abuse, racism, sexuality, addiction, mental health, grief and figuring out who you are. Sometimes the kid reading that book is living through the exact thing on those pages and needs to know they aren’t alone.

Parents have every right to decide what their own child reads.

Removing, restricting or hiding books because you don’t want someone else’s child reading them isn’t parenting. It’s censorship.

And we will never support it.

Choose your child’s books. Not everyone else’s. Freedom to read matters. ❤️📚
