Mont Eagle Mills

Mont Eagle Mills We buy and sell grain, and sell agriculture fertilizer and chemicals. Mont Eagle Mills. Inc. The mill changed hands several times, including owners Captain Wm.

has been under continuous ownership of four generations of the Glezen Family since 1916. According to contemporary news accounts, the first flour mill was built on the site in 1869. Wood and D.Z. Condrey, Civil War heroes of the famous 98th IL. Regiment of Wilder's Lightning Brigade. The mill found stable owners in the Kirtland Brothers, expert millers from New York who operated the mill for thirt

y-five years, until about 1914. The mill then passed through a series of failed owners until finally falling into receivership. In 1916, Sam A. Glezen and Charles Bissey, farmers from Ireland, Indiana with no milling experience bought the failed business. By the mid twenties, S.A. Glezen had bought out his partner and was milling as much as 212 bushels of wheat per day! Through the depression when farmers would barter sacks of wheat for kegs of flour, the WWII ration books, and the re-birth of small-town America in the 1950s, Mont Eagle marketed wheat flour, corn meal, and animal feed ingredients to the towns and farms of Southeast Illinois. Ward A. Glezen, Sam's son, was chief miller and head of operations during this time. Ward Glezen's son Bruce came on board in 1949 and was named the Company's first President following incorporation in 1953. Bruce built the company's first grain elevator and retail fertilizer plant in 1961. The business grew alongside the rapid grain yield increases of the sixties and seventies. What once was a small flour and feed mill focused into a grain elevator and retailer of agricultural inputs. Following Bruce Glezen came his son Bob in 1978. Bob stayed true to his father's business model and expanded both the cash grain and retail agricultural input businesses. Including the pending purchase of Reinbold and Sons, the company will operate five grain elevators and seven retail input locations across four counties in Southeast Illinois.
