I didn’t just want to start a business…I wanted to start a movement!
In 2020, I started tracing the “path of value” for every dollar I spent. I realized the convenience of big-box brands came with a heavy cost…supporting massive corporations that didn’t align with my values and creating a mountain of plastic waste. I kept asking myself: “Why is it so hard to just buy soap without supporting a billionaire or a landfill?”
I looked at refill models in other cities and realized Pittsburgh needed that same heartbeat. The Refillery was born to be the solution. I wanted to make it easy to buy as much as possible, as locally as possible, without the “Big Brand” baggage.
The brands we carry are different. They’re started by real people creating amazing, ethical products. They aren’t trying to colonize Mars. They’re just trying to make your laundry routine cleaner and the Earth a little greener.
We keep it simple with the everyday eco-essentials you actually need, like hand soap, dish soap, laundry detergent, and hair care. Just bring any clean container from home (or grab one of ours) and fill up. You pay only for the product by the ounce, making it easy to shop sustainably while keeping your money in the community.
