Oak Ridge Bicycle Center

Oak Ridge Bicycle Center Oak Ridge Bicycle Center Oak Ridge Bicycle Center was opened in 1973 by Charles Harrison and Michael Yurconic. Come by and see us.

Their partnership was short-lived, and Harrison took over until 1976, when Bill Winters came in as manager, and then owner of the shop. We outgrew the shop 30+ years ago, but we've been in the same location all these years. We've seen major bicycle brands come and go over time, but have carried Trek and Gary Fisher for several years. It's an interesting business, and we may yet figure it all out.

Until then, we'll keep doing our best to take care of our customers, and treating people like we'd like to be treated. Many thanks to Gordon,Shane, and John for helping make this happen.

This is me riding one of my bikes after I get all this medical stuff fixed. I'll be wearing my "Eat My Dust" T-shirt every day. Well, that's my plan, anyway. Today, Tuesday April 28th will be the last day the shop is officially open until I get over my rebuild. When possible, I'll be available by calling the shop phone during business hours, 865-482-3333. I'll be back as soon as possible to ORBC. Updates will be posted here, and on the bicycle shop front door. Thanks, Bill

No, I'm not riding off into the sunset with Bugs, but I am going to close after Tuesday. April 28th to deal with some medical stuff. I hate doing that, but it is what it is. I'll be back as soon as possible, but I'm not sure when. Updates will be on this FB page,or posted on the bicycle shop front door. I will be available on the shop phone when possible. That number is 865-482-3333.Thanks for all the support I've received for almost 50 years, and I plan on being back as quick as I can. Bill Open regular hours today, Saturday, and Tuesday.

ORBC will be open again tomorrow. I'm truly sorry that I needed to close for a few days. This will come up again in the next few weeks., and I'll adjust the shop hours and days accordingly then. Sorry for all the inconvenience! Bill

Since I have to take care of some medical stuff now, ORBC will be closed starting Friday, April 10th for, I hope, a very short period of time. I'm sorry this is happening now, my busy season, and I apologize to all ORBC's customers. When I know more, I'll post shop updates on this FB page, and will be available when possible on the shop phone. I might be back next week, but don't know yet. In the meantime, ride your bike and enjoy Spring. See you soon, thanks, Bill

Here's my ORBC Pro Tip for the day. Don't buy your bikes from stores that have no ability to assemble or repair them, regardless of the "bike shop vibe" you think they have. I've seen this level of "work" several times from the same store. And please don't buy their "extended warranty". It will never matter, except for the money you waste. This is what the bike looked like after they supposedly fixed their original mistakes. New bike. Adult and children's bikes. What an insult to real bicycle mechanics, yet it happens over and over. Management doesn't care, apparently. Over and over and over again.

If my shop had a ceiling this high, I'd hang half my stuff in the air, especially bikes. I'm a bit under the weather today, so I'm calling it a day and checking out early. Sorry for any inconvenience, I don't like doing this! Check with me tomorrow, thanks, Bill

Purty, ain't it? Out of the woodwork, they come. Building new wheels for this beauty.

Posting another pic of a bike shop from days gone by, just because I like them. Al's Bike Shop in Utah, according to the pic. Interesting look overall, when my kids were that size, they put in some work at my shop, too. Probably violated a few child labor laws at ORBC, but everybody turned out great, in spite of the medieval conditions they labored under. I could use that guy leaning on the counter. He looks like he could get the job done.

Another vintage bicycle shop picture, year unknown. I know y'all think it's an early pic of ORBC, but I can prove it's not. My ceilings aren't that high (I wish), and I assure you that I've never worn a necktie to work here, or anywhere else. Cool picture. I'm guessing they were a BSA dealer, which was Birmingham Small Arms Limited, a company that manufactured a wide variety of products, guns, motorcycles, etc., and bicycles, which they made until 1957. I've got an old black BSA 3 speed in the stash, with a head badge of crossed rifles. It can be yours if desired. Remember ORBC will be closed next week, and reopen on March 3rd. Thanks, Bill

Love these vintage bicycle shop pics. No, it's not my shop, it's too clean and well organized to be ORBC. The real ORBC will be closed next week, Tuesday Feb 23rd through Saturday Feb 28th. I've got to catch up on some things before Spring arrives, and it's coming soon, I think. Regular hours this week, back on March 3rd. Thanks, Bill
