Colgard Outdoor Sports Southwest Virginia's Favorite Hometown Sports Store! In the fall of 1978 Bobby Colyer Sr. and Dwayne Maggard decided to start a business venture together.

Joining their last names, they created Colgard Mine Products. Eventually the two would go their seperate ways, but the Colyer's decided to keep the Colgard name in tact. It wasn't until 1992 that a lull in the mining industry forced Colgard out of the mine supply business. As Colgard saw its sales diminsh, Bobby Sr.'s sons, Bobby Jr. and Rod, decided to enter into an industry they had always been

passionate about, sporting goods. Bobby Jr. and Rod Colyer grew up in the small town of Wise, Va. Throughout their childhood, the Colyer boys were always active in sports. Whether it be hunting, fishing, or golf, Bobby and Rod were always enjoying the outdoors. So, when the Colyer brothers experienced a slack in the mining business, they saw the perfect opportunity to put their outdoor sports knowledge, passion, and expertise to use. Since 1992, Bobby and Rod have been providing customers from Southwest Virginia, Eastern Kentucky, and East Tennessee, a place to purchase top brand name equipment at low prices, and receive expert advice and friendly service. Colgard Outdoor Sports has grown quite remarkably over the last 20 years. Colgard now employs seven full-time employees, and several part-time workers as well. Bobby and Rod continue to provide their expertise to customers; with Bobby focusing on shooting sports and Rod on fishing and golf. Colgard has also added a gun expert, a bow technician, and a website administrator to its staff, providing customers with further knowledge and support. In addition to adding a knowledgable sales staff, Colgard has increased its inventory drastically over the last 20 years.
