Life has been running the gamut of experiences lately, and in both the highs and lows, I always like to reflect on how we got here. So it's time to revive this Rebecca apprection post I made in 2021 over on the IG. Simply put, there would be no SR without MG and no MG without Ruth.

Our core value has always been about bringing beauty and beautiful experiences into the world. Being in community with y'all is the highlight of it all.

Rebecca is the founder & visionary of MG. She is a wonder: a self-taught farmer & designer, an amazing teacher, a fierce advocate for the people with whom she surrounds herself, a genuine & earnest storyteller, an authentic & creative force. She is always pushing the boundaries of what is possible. While that can be exhausting at times, what she has dreamed up & achieved in a few short years is truly remarkable to witness.

MG was born out of Rebecca's pure reverence for flowers; the story of how the farm came to be offers a little peek into the light that Rebecca inhabits in this world.

Rebecca became the primary caretaker for her best friend & soulmate, Ruth, after Ruth found out that she was terminally ill with cancer just after she had turned 30. Rebecca & Ruth were determined to live life to the fullest with the time that Ruth had left. As they moved through their days, they began an unspoken practice of leaving each other cuttings of flowers in their home, surprising one another with flowers from their garden left on each other's bedside tables; they would forage sticks & foliage on walks, making arrangements out of found objects. This regular practice, which developed slowly from one simple gesture to the next, meant that their home was full of life in Ruth's last year. The love language that Rebecca developed with Ruth, through flowers, turned into a gravitational pull. And here we are: on a flower farm whose namesake honors the many, many graces that flowers bring into this world.

As we hustle to move these flowers from seed to field to harvest, know that our reverence for flowers run deep, and our farm is the ultimate passion project.

Gather at SR on Monday, June 1st for a community story-telling event with the author of The Le***an Bar Chronicles and co-hosts of . 5:00 PM & 7:30 PM.

Le***an bars are so much more than a place to get a drink. For over a century, they’ve acted as community posts, political organizing grounds, and sanctuaries. In the 1980s, there were an estimated 200 le***an bars across the US; the current count sits at a few dozen. The Le***an Bar Chronicles is made up of stories from 38 le***an bar communities across the country.

We are revelling in every bird chirp, every new bud on the trees and every spring bulb that's made its way to the surface so far.

While we all face completely unbearable news all the time, being in community with you gives us hope.

We're planning more food and dance and book and mutual-aid and soul-tending events for the very near future.... but we're also SO busy farming right now 😵‍💫

Also on the to-do list: we're hoping to scrape together funds to get some outdoor seating soon 🤞 It's gotta happen.

This amazing event (that we didn't even really announce on our socials) has been POSTPONED from tonight until 4/8 due to illness amongst multiple collaborators.

The original idea stemmed from our friend 's desire to have a book reading celebrating the 2nd edition of her book, So Many Ways to Draw a Ghost; what has emegered is a collaboration between friends and artists getting together to reflect on death, grief, and joy.

If you weren't able to get tickets the first time around, now is the time to join the wait-list. We can't wait to be in the creative company of our friends Boyuan, Chelsea, .feeler and 🌹

One week from today, 1/22, we will welcome back to SR to once again BLOW YR MINDS with some plant-forward ✨ magic ✨

Unmi's fan base is (rightfully) HUGE...and we have limited capacity.

We are NOT trying to repeat the scene from this past fall when the line wrapped around the block, so in the interest of keeping y'all out of the cold, send us a DM or email with the number of people in your party and if we have room, we will send you to a PW protected page to complete your reservation with a credit card hold.

IMPORTANT: Reservations are 'first come first served' We expect to book all seats shortly after posting. Please be patient with us

If you know SR, you know that we will not be able to accommodate large parties...in fact, you may have to sit on the couch to eat your dinner or next to a stranger --> new friend because that's the way the vegan bao crumbled.

This is NOT a prix fixe dinner.

There will be a TWO DRINK MINIMUM for every person in your party (SR earns our keep on the drinks, not the food!)

As we all start mentally prepping for whatever the coming days & weeks hold, we want to 𝑻𝑯𝑨𝑵𝑲 𝒀𝑶𝑼 𝑨𝑳𝑳 for showing up to support e̲a̲c̲h̲ ̲o̲t̲h̲e̲r̲ throughout this past year. We are so honored to be witnesses to your creative energy, mutual aid efforts, art practices, and community building.

Ya’ll….It has been a year.

As one cycle closes and another opens, we will make space for breath, reconnection, and renewal. New Year’s Eve at SR will be a moment to gather, release the weight we’ve carried, and begin again.

We are so deeply honored to welcome on NYE to 𝒃𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒌-𝒊𝒏 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝑻𝒆𝒄𝒉𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒔.

There are no words to communicate how humbled and excited we are to have Malik play in our space. His presence, and this night, can be described in no other terms than as a gift to our community.

Malik promises to be reaching into the deeper corners of his archive: jazz, rare groove, warm soul, and deep house. All music that he promises you won’t hear anywhere else.
