Sometime in late summer or early fall, the pale lavender wild asters start popping up around here. To me, they feel like such a seasonal marker and a reminder of this beautiful place we live. They appear almost randomly around my yard, and every year I wait for those first stems to emerge, hoping they don’t get run over by the lawnmower—much like the Queen Anne’s Lace, which is a story for another day.

I think they’re the sweetest little flowers, adding the softest touch of color to the landscape. Plus, the butterflies and other pollinators seem to love them just as much as I do.

This ceremony installation was filled with all local + seasonal October flowers but there’s just something about those little asters for me.
