This is one of my "big three" albums that got me into hardcore, and heavier music in general. All paths since for me stemmed from these (3) albums.
Other two being Madball - Set if Off and Downset's S/T album. Have had those in the shop in the past and glazed them pretty hard as well.
- River Runs Red gets a long awaited reissue. First time I've been able to have copies in the shop 🕺🏼
Fall of '94, fresh out of high school got introduced to those three by a new pal (some of you have met my friend Chad) and my collection began. Mostly CDs at the time, but I remember mailing in to Very Distro with a money order, giving my parents a list of CDs / tapes to look for when they would take a bus to NYC for holiday shopping. Kudos to Sandra for finding Deftones - Adrenaline tape and Stompbox - Stress in CD. Can only imagine those conversations.
Don't know that I'd be as voracious a consumer of music had I not fallen in love with these albums. Each of them hit something different. In this case it was pure emotion. First heavy album I was introduced to with all clean vox, dealing with emotional topics and an angst that a lot of us feel at 18. When you connect with albums on an emotional level at a formative age, those records will always be with you.
After 32 years I still belt this out, loud as f**k and with a p**s poor performance but just can't not jam hard when I put this on.
It's these words and music that keeps me living keeps me breathing.
