It happens every year: a week before school starts, kids all of a sudden remember the book they were supposed to read by the end of summer. Cue frantic parents coming to the store, hands clasped in prayer, begging us to get the book in time. And, dear reader, we often fall short because time is a cruel master.

Friends, it is a little over one week until the official start to summer, and we have decided that this year, summer reading is not just for the kids. Join us Saturday, June 20, for a summer reading kick-off party at Starlight Motor Inn!

Your ticket gets your pass to Starlight Motor Inn’s fabulous pool, where you can set up poolside as early as 1 p.m., grab a drink from the bar, and soak up the sun. At 2 p.m., Itinerant Literate Books will tell you about eight incredible and wildly different books we’ve selected for our self-led Summer Reading Series.

Pick out a book (or two), meet your new friends who made the same picks, and voilà! You have a book club. Spend the afternoon lounging, reading, chatting, and making new bookish friends.

🌈 Get ready for some colorful fun! Itinerant Literate Books is thrilled to add a free sidewalk chalk and story time to this year’s Park Circle Pride celebration.

Bring the whole family and join us in our backyard as we share heartwarming and uplifting LGBTQ+ themed stories through engaging read-alouds. Afterward (or during!), let your artistic side shine with our sidewalk chalk and help us create a vibrant and welcoming space celebrating Pride. We’ll provide the chalk – just bring your imagination!

This is a free event open to all members of the Park Circle community and beyond!

Itinerant Literate will donate 15% of all sales for the week of Park Circle Pride to AFFA and We Are Family.

Join us for our sixth-annual Pride Poetry Stage at Commonhouse Aleworks on Thursday, June 4! Sign up to share your work or simply listen in community. The event will feature longer readings from a few Charleston-area poet-performers, interspersed with open mic readers. Each open mic reader will have time for performing one poem. Sign ups for the open mic will be available starting at 6:45 p.m., with limited availability.

Itinerant Literate will have a selection of LGBTQ poetry from national and local poets available and will donate 15% of all sales for the week of Park Circle Pride to AFFA and We Are Family.

We’ll see you there, next Thursday!
