We're an enormous used bookstore with over 500,000 used books. We are chock full of cats, gardens, coffee and an incredibly knowledgeable staff. Please feel free to use this page for store updates and info to any questions you may have. In addition we have our own personal website @ Bookbarnniantic.com. All four Book Barn stores are open from 11am to 6pm every day of the week. If you're looking to

sell us books we buy everyday between the hours of 11am and 6pm. If it's raining, snowing, or in fact, precipitating oddly in any way that may affect the books, give us a call- we may still be buying in small quantities. We buy used books for STORE CREDIT every day, and most days we'll be buying for CHECK, although during the winter we cut back, so GIVE US A CALL to make sure. Our entire inventory is made up of books that other people, people like you, bring us- so never hesitate to bring us your books. We may not take them, but we'd love to have a look.

Consult our highly official signpost, choose between the Gardens, Playground, Underworld, Haunted Book Shop, or the Last Page, then proceed with confidence. We cannot guarantee you will arrive where intended, but you will almost certainly find books along the way.

The horse world lost one of its best-known voices last week. Monty Roberts spent a lifetime encouraging people to understand horses through patience, trust, and communication, and his books introduced those ideas to readers around the world. We were reminded of that today while looking at our horsemanship shelves, where his work sits alongside other pioneers of natural horsemanship, including John Lyons and Buck Brannaman.

Every used bookstore has a shelf where the books seem to be quietly judging the rest of the room. Today's candidate is Abnormal by Michel Foucault. The cover is calm, the title is anything but, and inside are lectures that have influenced decades of discussion about how societies decide what's "normal" in the first place. One of our favorite things about a used bookstore is that entire subjects seem to appear overnight. This week, Chapter 3 quietly gained a shelf full of Freemasonry. Encyclopedias, histories, lodge manuals, York Rite books, and a few older volumes that have clearly spent many years on someone else's bookshelf before arriving on ours. Whether you're researching, collecting, or simply curious, there's something satisfying about seeing a whole corner of a subject come together like this.

This little cottage has a lot of confidence. It's sitting all alone in the middle of the cover, apparently expecting everyone else to sort things out when they arrive. One Night on the Island by Josie Silver made us smile before we even opened it. It has already found its way to New Arrivals, where it's waiting for the next reader who wouldn't mind taking a literary trip to a quiet Irish island.

Sometimes a book arrives wearing a slipcase instead of a dust jacket. That's usually worth paying attention to. This copy of Violin Iconography of Antonio Stradivari isn't just a book about violins. It's one of the landmark reference works on the world's most famous violin maker, compiled by Herbert K. Goodkind after years of research. We don't often find books like this, and we certainly don't often have one waiting in the Main Barn. If you know someone who hears the word "Stradivari" and immediately stops walking, we'd suggest pointing them in our direction.
