We're an enormous used bookstore with over 500,000 used books. We are chock full of cats, gardens, coffee and an incredibly knowledgeable staff. sell us books we buy everyday between the hours of 11am and 6pm. If it's raining, snowing, or in fact, precipitating oddly in any way that may affect the books, give us a call- we may still be buying in small quantities. We buy used books for STORE CREDIT every day, and most days we'll be buying for CHECK, although during the winter we cut back, so GIVE US A CALL to make sure. Our entire inventory is made up of books that other people, people like you, bring us- so never hesitate to bring us your books. We may not take them, but we'd love to have a look.

Are These The Books You're Looking For? Sometimes our book buyers send us a thriller. Sometimes they send us a romance. And sometimes they send us two books that suggest someone, somewhere, has been having very interesting conversations about twentieth-century music. Today's arrivals are *After the Rite: Stravinsky's Path to Neoclassicism (1914-25)* by Maureen A. Carr and *Analytical Essays on Music by Women Composers: Concert Music, 1960-2000*, edited by Laurel Parsons and Brenda Ravenscroft. One explores the evolution of Igor Stravinsky after *The Rite of Spring* changed the musical landscape. The other shines a light on the work of women composers whose contributions helped shape modern concert music. If you're a musician, music student, scholar, or simply someone who enjoys wandering down fascinating intellectual rabbit holes, these two are waiting in New Arrivals. They may not be here forever, but then again, neither is a good fugue.

Some shelves ask for more than a quick glance.

Our Civil War section holds stories of a divided nation, of courage and conflict, and of a war fought over slavery that shaped everything that followed. It remains the bloodiest chapter in American history, and one that still asks to be understood.

For our last week, we’re heading out west.

This week’s shelves are filled with classic westerns, the kind that helped define American cinema. You’ll find Randolph Scott riding through dusty towns, Jimmy Stewart bringing his quiet intensity to the frontier, and Gary Cooper standing tall when the moment calls for it.

There are also some truly legendary titles in the mix, including My Darling Clementine, The Professionals, 5:10 to Yuma, The Bravados, Man with the Gun, Wagon Master, and McCabe & Mrs. Miller.

Altogether, 113 Western DVDs have joined the collection for this final release.

Over the past seven weeks, we’ve added action films, international cinema, horror, film school classics, noir, and now the wide-open landscapes of the western. It’s been quite a ride.

Everything is shelved and ready at C3.

Week Six has arrived at Chapter 3, and the shadows have grown longer.

This week’s release dives straight into film noir, that smoky corner of cinema where the lighting is dramatic, the dialogue is sharp, and nobody completely trusts anybody else.

We’ve added roughly 140 noir titles, featuring the kind of cast list that could make any movie lover stop mid-aisle. Robert Mitchum, Barbara Stanwyck, Burt Lancaster, Peter Lorre, Sydney Greenstreet, Rod Steiger, Lana Turner, Ray Milland, and a few other familiar faces who knew their way around a trench coat.

You’ll find classics like Laura, The Mask of Dimitrios, The Verdict, Road House, Sorry, Wrong Number, and The Postman Always Rings Twice. We also have a handsome Fox Film Noir collection, perfect for anyone looking to spend a few evenings in morally complicated company.

And yes, we’ve even included a small reminder that sometimes the remake isn’t quite the same as the original.

Everything is shelved, organized, and waiting for you at C3. If you enjoy clever plots, dangerous glances, and lighting that makes every doorway look suspicious, this is your week.

Some bookstores feel less like businesses and more like old friends.

We are sorry to hear the news that another Connecticut bookstore, Whitlock's Book Barn, founded in 1948, will be closing its doors this spring. Independent bookstores carry far more than books. They hold decades of conversations, discoveries, and the quiet excitement of finding the right story at the right time.

To everyone who built, worked in, and loved Whitlock’s Book Barn over the years, thank you for the care you put into sharing books with the world. Bookstores like yours leave a lasting mark.
