40 years of scrimshaw, an art form shaped by patience, precision, and history.

Once practiced by sailors carving stories into bone and ivory at sea, scrimshaw today carries a different meaning. It stands as a reminder of craftsmanship in a fast-moving world, where every line is etched by hand and every piece tells a story that can’t be rushed or replicated.

While the materials and ethics have evolved, the spirit remains the same: honoring tradition, preserving detail, and creating something meant to last.

Scrimshaw refers to the art of carving and engraving bone, ivory, or shells, created by whalers in the 18th and 19th centuries during their long voyages. The term likely originated from a 19th-century nautical term for “wasting time” or “idling,” as sailors used their leisure hours to decorate s***m whale teeth and bones.
