Sundance Cycles

Sundance Cycles Trying to get the whole world on bicycles since 1983. It's taking longer than we thought..... Repair work is what I am doing mostly.

Sundance Cycles is a business that expresses the life long love and passion one man has had for cycling. It has sort of come full circle from a young racer with good mechanical skills working on his and his friends bikes to coaching and fitting then thirty years of owning a traditional brick and mortar store front and finally back to working solo on friends bikes. No longer a bicycle shop in the t

raditional sense but a one man show offering bicycle fitting services and repair work. The biggest change from the young racer working in his garage is over forty years of experience the thing that has remained is my love of cycling and the satisfation I find in a job well done. Sundance is offering some of the most advanced fitting work in Southern California using not one but two Retül systems including the Retül Müve fit cycle or Serotta Size Cycle when appropriate and analysis of pedal stroke mechanics through the use RacerMate's CompuTrainer. See me for everything from careful and correct cleat installation, several levels of bike fits to complete bike design for a true bespoke custom. Call for an appointment and estimate and I will have your ride rolling like new again with a fast turn around. Apologies ahead of time, often you may have to leave a message as I am up ro my elbows in the solvent tank and can't always get to the phone.

This came out of a bike with a flat. Not certain but I think the rider made it home because they put the sticky part over the puncture. We all had a good laugh nonetheless.

Wow! Was recently asked by a long time friend who owned a high end mountain bike shop in a very wealthy area to help him sell the contents of a storage locker full of vintage stuff. Here is a NOS Paul’s Components rear derailleur. Talk about hen’s teeth. I’ll be listing things on the Vintage Mountain Bike Swap Meet group and eBay.

I've been in the bike biz most of my working life. My first shop was opened in Ventura in 1983. At that time all the shop owners in town got along with one another. We'd send customers to another shop if they had something we did not have, we'd share advice on repair work and we even pranked each other once in a while. We understood that if the merchant community in Ventura got along and worked together cycling would benefit and so would we. Seems as if times have changed. Shop owners seem to believe the other shop owners are the enemy. No longer is the owner down the street a brother in arms. Recently a fellow shop owner took an unwarranted stab at tarnishing the reputation of the shop I work for in Yelp. At a time when IBDs are closing daily and the brick and mortar retailer struggles not to be trampled in the online onslaught we should be working together not against each other. To that shop own owner shame on you.

Built a very (understatement) light production bike today. Anybody got a guess?

Sadly a Di2 rear derailleur passed away in a crash. I've been wanting to do an autopsy on one and this one got dissected. This is the motor and the chip assembly. Took 20min to extract it and I am impressed with how well sealed it is. Fun with dead parts.

Done and delivered, restoration of a 1976 Raleigh. 30 plus hours of labor, finding impossible to find parts, replaced all the frame material decals, bringing a very dry nearly dead Brooks saddle back to life, I could go on and on but I'll spare you. It was all worth it when the customer saw it couldn't stop going on about how great it looked.

Restoring an early 1970s Raleigh for a customer. Finally have it refurbished enough that it is starting to look like a bicycle again. Everything had a patina of pitting, rust and corrosion. This means everything came apart as far as it could and has been reconditioned, polished and reassembled. Even found replacement decals. Still much to do but there is light at the end of the tunnel and I don't think it's the train.

Trek will soon release the next generation of Domane road bikes. The Domane
introduced the Iso Speed Concept which set a new standard for what compliance could be in a bicycle frame. The mechanism is an integated part of the seat tube and in this next iteration will even be tuneable meaning the level of compliance is adjustable. But why stop there? At the front end of the frame is an Iso Speed Concept that gives the handlebars the same type of compliance as the seat tube gives the saddle. I built this one yesterday and will be riding it today. Stay tuned for my review.
