✨House Blessing!!✨✨Chalking the Door✨
✨January 6th, 2026 Epiphany Day ✨

The Epiphany is today, January the 6th, 2026 and each year on this day we follow tradition and mark our door using chalk which has either been blessed by our priest, or blessed with prayer in order to write the Epiphanytide pattern. ✨

Many chalk the top of ther door (or front stoop) with a pattern such as this below.

20 + C + M + B + 26

The numbers refer to the calendar year.

The “+” sign represent the Cross & stand for Christ.

The letters have a twofold significance;
1st) the Letters C, M, B are the initials of the traditional names of the Three Magi; Caspar, Melchior, & Balthasar.

2nd) is an abbreviation of a Latin blessing/phrase, “Christus Mansionem Benedicat, which means, “May Christ bless this home”.  ✨

We open with prayer: the Our Father, and the Hail Mary.

When we begin to chalk with each number, cross and letter we write, we say aloud “may Christ bless this house”. ✨

We pray the traditional house blessing prayer, and after our prayer to conclude the chalking we ask the almighty to bless our home, to bless us, and those who visit with good health, happiness, love, compassion, prosperity, and for protection.

For those who celebrate the Epiphany, Three Kings Day, Little Christmas, or the Twelfth Night we know this is our last celebration of the twelve days of Christmas, the official end to the Christmas season.
