Grio columnist Michael Harriot provided a retelling of American history which highlights the experiences and perspectives of Black Americans. Greenlight Bookstore in Brooklyn, New York, hosted this event.

Thanks to News 12 Brooklyn for featuring our partnership with NYC Service in their holiday coverage! We're grateful to all our staff who made this project happen, and to our customers who gave generously so asylumn-seeking kids and families can have new books for the holidays. ❤️🎁

The whole program serves around 8,000 kids in city shelters to make their holiday wishes come true.

Idlewild is a tiny, artsy Quaker high school in lower Manhattan. For two Idlewild outcasts, 9/11 serves as the first day of an intense, 18-month friendship that ultimately drives them to make choices that they'll regret for the rest of their lives. Much like reading a good poem, caring for plants brings comfort, solace, and joy to many. In this new poetry anthology, Leaning toward Light, acclaimed poet and avid gardener Tess Taylor brings together a diverse range of contemporary voices to offer poems that celebrate the joy found in nature. Joining Taylor on the Greenlight stage are contributors Sophie Cabot Black, Patty Crane, Mark Doty, Haleh Liza Gafori, Mariana Goycoechea, and Erika Meitner for an evocative celebration of our connection to the green world.
