Today is Patience & Fortitude's 115th birthday! 🎂🥳

On May 11, 1911, shortly before the 42nd Street library first opened to the public, the majestic Library lions settled in at the Fifth Avenue entrance to welcome all visitors. Nicknamed Patience and Fortitude by Mayor Fiorello La Guardia in the 1930s, they continue to greet their fellow New Yorkers and all who visit the Library.
