Today’s sewing class met the mission. Community members came - of different native languages, different perspectives and ages. One came with fabric she needed to overcome her trepidation and learn how to cut. I brought a mechanical sewing machine to explain its parts, features, explain why it could be both a great beginner and long term machine, how to care for and understand it. As the other students watched the cutting lesson, I explained how directional prints (hers was directional) affect cutting, and what other considerations can sneak up on you. In short, learning to sew is diligent practice, followed by on your own trial and error, error, error, success, more self-education, triumph, disaster, repeat. If you’re okay with that, we’re off to a great start!
