This is your last chance to give for clean water for 2020! Back in February 2020, we spent days in the Sidama region of Ethiopia talking to local coffee farmers. As we travelled throughout the region, we noticed bright yellow Jerry cans being carried by women and children. It’s one thing to hear the stories of villagers walking miles on end to bring water back for the communities - it’s another to experience it.
Coffee is a water intensive crop and water is one of the biggest concerns for our farmers. The villages we visited have no running water and their pumps were several miles away.
The men and young boys farming which means the women and daughters are left to walk miles in the sweltering heat to fetch water. Not only are the water pumps their single source of access to water, these long trips take up half of their day which does not allow children to concentrate on school.
Clean water changes everything! It can improve their health, provide them more time to grow food and earn an income, and helps keep their children focused on school. By working together, we can change their lives and fight poverty. To help make a difference, click in our bio to give.
