Two days from now, I will be heading north to Connecticut and Massachusetts to fund raise and train for the 40th riding of he Pan-Massachusetts Challenge. I'll be staying with family in Connecticut this year as I conduct my many fund raisers at various stores and Dunkin Donuts shops in Oxford, Dudley, Webster and Auburn.
The PMC has been raising and donating millions of dollars for cancer research at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston since 1980, donating nearly $700 Million in 39 years. For me, I've been a PMC fund raising bicyclist since 1982, raising over $100K. Like every PMC'er, my PMC story includes the loss of loved ones to cancer, my mom Barbara in 1992 and my wife in 2004. Raising money for cancer research at the Dana Farber is easy, riding past my childhood home on Walcott St in Oxford (just over the tracks on Sutton Ave, second right) is hard as it brings back the hard memories of my mom fighting cancer and memories of my wife Linda as she would always be at the end of Walcott St to be there to greet me as I ride down Sutton Ave.
After my mom's passing in 1992, my dad continued to meet me at the end of Walcott St for two years later before his passing to hand me $100 bill in memory of my mom.
