Strange Guitarworks is New Orleans’ premier full service guitar repair shop, owned and operated by Benjamin Strange and Aaron Younce. Strange Guitarworks is driven by the pursuit of the flawless instrument – a guitar with amazing feel, perfect intonation, and great tone. We know the secret of what separates a good guitar from a truly great guitar lies not in how much it costs or what name is on th

e headstock – it comes from the attention to detail in the fretwork and setup that can only be tailored to you, the player. Whether your guitar is a pawn shop prize or a boutique gem, we can make it better, together. We offer a wide range of services: from simple restringing, setups, modifications, and electronics work, all the way up to full restorations. All of our fretwork is done utilizing our PLEK machine, which offers unparalleled accuracy with a tolerance of .001mm . No job is too big, and no job is too small. Your relationship with your guitar is extremely personal, and no one understands that better than you – so all setup work comes with a free adjustment period. All our repair work is covered by a lifetime warranty, and is backed by a 100% satisfaction guarantee. We’re serious about this: we love what we do, and we want you to love our work. We work on not just guitars, but all kinds of stringed instruments (except orchestral instruments). We work on basses, banjos, mandolins, ukuleles, bouzoukis… you name it! No appointment is necessary – drop by anytime!

Blast from the past! Upon some encouragement from a dear friend, Benjamin hunted down his old Steinberger XM2-TT bass, and discovered that it's in Japan! This bass accompanied Benjamin on tours and recording sessions for over a decade, and suffered the indignity of having almost the entire bass swapped out piece by piece. The only thing that's original is the body and the bridge!

Sadly, a sale was forced in 2008 when he was flat broke, and this lovely bass migrated to Japan somehow. Oddly, almost all the original modifications are still in place: Moses Graphite neck, Rio Grande Pitbull pickups (simply wired to a toggle switch), even the extra washers on the bridge spring to add tension to the vibrato. Apparently the only thing changed was that the Yamaha midi pickup was removed. (It is also assumed that it's now in standard tuning, and not Benjamin's CGDA tuning.)

Hopefully this bass is serving someone well in Japan.

Hey everybody! We're closing up for Mardi Gras shenanigans, and won't be open on Lundi Gras nor Mardi Gras. We MIGHT be open Ash Wednesday, depending on how much fun we had on Fat Tuesday. Have fun, be safe, and if you see us out there... no you didn't.
