Today is the 15 year anniversary of releasing ‘Genuine Negro Jig’ on Nonesuch Records with the Carolina Chocolate Drops! When I created the Carolina Chocolate Drops with and Justin Robinson () we were reviving music from North Carolina’s Piedmont region and the music of Joe Thompson. Rhiannon, Justin and I made history together and took the music as far as we could which eventually led us to become the first black string band to ever win a GRAMMY Award and we won in the “Best Traditional Folk Album” category for ‘Genuine Negro Jig’ which also happened to be the last year that category existed.

Here’s a moment from the GRAMMYs and looking forward to the original trio reuniting in Durham this April.

Today is the 52nd Anniversary of Little Feat’s landmark album, ‘Dixie Chicken.’ Not only did this album add such classics as “Dixie Chicken” and “Fat Man in the Bathtub” to the Feat repertoire, but it was the first record that featured Paul Barrere, Kenny Gradney and Sam Clayton in the band. Give it a listen wherever you consume music and TURN IT UP!
