✨🙌🏾✨Happy Hoodoo Heritage Month to all y’all, it’s finna be lit. I put this lil’ infographic together to share a relative, yet “working” description of Hoodoo. Instead of twisting my thumbs over providing my personal interpretation I went straight to the internet to ease my anxiety.
✨🤧✨ Obviously, this is not an objective definition, but I took my time to appreciate what was offered via Wikipedia for simplicity sake. Don’t laugh at that. I double checked their citations and was glad to find that 4 outta 5 first sources listed were from black folks.
✨🥲✨ The second source listed was a generic interpretation I ain’t really care for; but, I think it’s important to include it to get a fuller scope of contemporary misunderstandings versus more reliable sources.
✨😅✨ I absolutely felt it was necessary to include these sources with pictures of the authors because one of my biggest pet peeves in the whole wide world is information about about black spirituality that ain’t published by someone of African descent. It really grinds my gears that there’s loads of published works on the subject of spirituality & the African Diaspora that was written by someone who ain’t got no business talking about it like it’s for them. It’s giving culture culture. 🙃
✨🥹✨ Don’t worry, I’ll spend this month making a commitment to be more active in the best ways I can! It’s really important to me that I share my own unique experiences with my practice, as well as useful information and reliable resources that we add to our scope of better understanding.
