The Reverend Fr. William G. Berkey, who served as a priest in the Diocese of Greensburg for 24 years, died at the age of 59 on Aug. 13, 2026, after an illness. A Derry Area native, Father Berkey was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Bosco June 1, 2002, at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg. Following his ordination, he served as parochial vicar at Mount St. Peter, New Kensington, and St. Margaret Mary, Lower Burrell, from 2002 to 2005. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.

I believe our dogs are mirrors.

Not because every behavior is our fault, but because they feel us in ways we sometimes forget.

They feel our frustration.
Our anxiety.
Our impatience.
But they also feel our calm.
Our confidence.
Our love.

And I’ve learned that when I change my energy, my dog often changes with me.

Sometimes the best thing I can give my dog isn’t another command.

It’s a deep breath.
A little patience.
A softer voice.
A willingness to slow down and listen.

Because everything funnels down from us.

Our dogs spend their lives learning how to understand us.

Maybe the least we can do is spend ours learning how to understand them.

Mount St. Peter is open for Eucharistic Adoration on Tuesdays from 2pm to 4pm. From 2pm to 3pm quiet prayer is available. From 3pm to 4pm, the Divine Mercy chaplet and other group prayers are said. Come spend time with Jesus.
