In celebration of the Summer Solstice, which arrives today, June 20th, at 21:44 pm GMT, we present for your viewing pleasure some original antique engravings from our Celestial Department!
In Gaelic culture, the summer solstice marks the peak of the sun’s highest climb into maximum light, symbolizing a time of blooming, blossoming, and wild abandon.
To honor this occasion, our ancestors traditionally lit large bonfires on hilltops, signifying the sun burning brightly at its highest point. This practice continues today, with many gathering at ancient stone circles like Stonehenge in England, The Hill of Tara in Ireland, and Cromlech in the Orkneys to mark the occasion.
The summer solstice is also a traditional time for weddings, fires, garlands of colorful blossoms, and dance rituals. All available at our shop #50 on the Village Green here at Peddler’s Village.
