Please join us in wishing our beloved team member Raquel the happiest graduation day today! If you know us well, you know Raquel has been an essential part of the bookspace from jump, tabling everywhere, bookselling, hosting events, mentoring younger folks, giving great recommendations… the list goes on. She’s off to Agnes Scott College next fall, so expect a bookish aunty roadtrip to the Atlanta area next year. We are going to savor summer shifts and then miss her so much; anyone else experiencing Raquel withdrawal will be welcome to visit us for commiseration libations 🥹 Three cheers for Raquel and all her possible futures! 🌈📚❤️

Read books. Short ones, too, and you just might find yourself in the absolute best place to be on the first Thursday of the month. Fifteen deep tonight for Open Throat, and such a great discussion. Thanks Henry Hoke . Swipe for July’s pick (We Live Here), a few of our recent considerations, and some beloved detritus/evidence that summer really is just about here… 100 percent juice! Let’s gooooooo! 🌈📚❤️

What better than a book launch to kick off Pride month and to close its first full day!?! Much appreciation to Rhea Debussy , author of Lavender Bans, and to conversation partner Jane Gordon for a fascinating and insightful conversation about the long history of discrimination against LGBTQ+ folks in the military, and about the roots (or rather repetition/enduring nature) of today’s biased policies. A deeply researched account that reveals much, including some truly stunning bits from the archives. Thanks to all who joined, and to Katalina’s for tastiest and prettiest lavender cupcakes. If you couldn’t make it tonight, never fear; let us know you’d like a signed copy and we’ll save one for you! Happy Pride, y’all… 🌈📚❤️

What an absolutely beautiful way to start this day and this special month! Walking in truth, protest and sisterhood, under the warm sun, with a breeze through the trees, and our good friends the green heron and great blue heron soaring overhead. We toggled between talking, listening to the Communion audiobook, and simply enjoying nature’s gift of birdsong. We’d love to have you read along with us, even if you can’t join our Monday morning walks or The Real Communion celebration on Tuesday, June 16. (Swipe for details!) Many thanks to our audiobook partner for the free audiobook credits - we still have a few to give if you need one - and to Dori and Sheri for so many of the great photos! (And yes y’all, Sug does actually run sometimes!) We would love to see you next Monday, 7:30am at the Gazebo… 🌈📚❤️

Look, it’s the most adorable bookdragon and bookworm EVER! So excited for Marisa and Amber and all the other CT Book Trail winners! Especially geeked to be handing off giftcards, puzzles, pins, stickers and more to bookish folks we know and love… And remember that you still have a chance to win if you complete the Slow and Steady version of the trail by Labor Day; don’t miss the chance to make the CT Book Trail rain books into your life this fall! 🌈📚❤️

Another Friyay on the books! So many sweet souls, so much laughter and booktalking, and such good times. Special shout-outs to the Waverly crew who blessed us with a visit and to former intern, the always sparkling Diamond, who also popped by to discuss volunteering this summer (yay!!!). And much love to our wonderful interns from NHA, Christopher and Siriyah, who finished up their three-weeks with us Friday afternoon; to celebrate, we had a delicious lunch from Taqueria Tlaxcala II (check them out at 161 Whalley) and toasted some glasses of sparkling cider to their bright futures! More to say about each of these cool young people, so stay tuned… In the meantime, wishing everyone a great start to the weekend! 🌈📚❤️

(This post went to the wrong page 😭 so reposting it late here!) We’ve been off our social media game, but trust these sweet interns have been on the joyful, bookish grind, and we are so grateful for their good works! In between other tasks today, we did a whole bunch of organizing books for donation and did a round of Read in Color Little Free Library restocks… Tomorrow is their last internship day and so we’ll be posting an internship recap 🥹 but trust tomorrow isn’t the last we’ll be seeing of them! Once on the team, forever in the bookspace family…. 🌈📚❤️

Kick off Pride month with us on Monday, June 1 at 6pm with author and lecturer Dorian Rhea Debussy for a celebration of her new book, The Lavender Bans: A Century of Anti-LGBTQ+ Policies in the US Military. This book chronicles the long history of discrimination against LGBTQ+ people in the American military and intelligence services, from vice squad stings during World War I to the “Lavender Scare” of the early Cold War through “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and the Trump administration’s transgender ban. It asks and helps to answer, “What does anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination reveal about the US military, American political institutions, and broader themes in q***r history?” We would love to see you here for cake, flowers, and great conversation! 🌈📚❤️
