This post is very open and honest… which I usually don’t post stuff like this, but sometimes things just hit wrong.
Small business is hard, owning your own business is hard! Just because you own your own business doesn’t mean you’re rich, in fact it actually means you’re probably NOT rich lol
You spend all your money trying to support your business, so when someone walks in and asks you to discount a product drastically, just so that they can have it, it’s like a slap in your face. They want you to LOSE money just so they can have something themselves.
When you own your own business, you fight for every penny you make.
You don’t have a salary, you don’t have benefits, you don’t have retirement and you don’t have a big company behind you that writes your merchandise off. You don’t have paid vacations and you don’t have a supplemental income when things get slow.
So when people come in and make comments about your prices, ask for a discount, or say they’ll come back and get it when it’s on sale, how does that work?
It’s honestly extremely disrespectful and hurtful too.
Not every body gets money handed to them and lots of us have to work for every single penny in this industry so let’s try to be a little more considerate and think of your small business owners when you come in and make comments like that.
I’m not just talking about my store. I’m talking about all small businesses that are self owned.
This is how we feed our families and not ask for handouts.
