WE’RE OFFICIALLY COMING HOME. 📍 GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA.
After our time in Savannah, Georgia, LintHead Restorations is officially returning to its birthplace — Greenville, South Carolina.
And we couldn’t think of a more fitting piece of history to mark our homecoming.
Recently discovered at an auction in nearby Greer, South Carolina, this remarkable antique wooden chest bears the faded markings “WHITMIRE” and “GREENVILLE, S.C.”
Our historical research has uncovered Whitmire-associated businesses operating in Greenville during the 19th century, including Whitmire & Good, documented in historic business directories. Whether this chest can be directly connected to those establishments remains a mystery we’re determined to investigate.
And then there’s that BLUE PAINT. 💙
Decades of honest wear have left behind an extraordinary surface — layers of weathered blue, exposed aged timber, and the unmistakable character that simply cannot be manufactured.
Surviving early painted wooden chests with this combination of character, substantial construction, unusual interior compartments, and identifiable local markings are not something we encounter every day.
Measuring 24 × 12 × 13 inches, the chest retains its heavy wooden construction, aged iron hardware, recessed carrying handles, and divided interior.
It’s everything we love about preserving the past: craftsmanship, mystery, authenticity, and a story still waiting to be told.
