Don’t Cast Too Far! Finding Stripers on an Outgoing Tide.

Snuck out for a quick after-work session on the Napa River during the outgoing tide.

I found a little inlet pushing water toward a point and figured the stripers would be sitting right where that current was delivering bait. Instead of throwing halfway across the river, I dropped my rigs right into that zone.

Two little stripers later… they were there. 😎

Both fish took the anchovy, while the pile worm survived to fish another cast.

No keepers this time, but a couple of fish after work beats going straight home!

Some were donated by our customers and some by Sweeney’s. We tested the gear and it all appears to be in great working condition.

Did I Overpay for This 70-Year-Old German Fishing Reel?

A customer brought in this old D.A.M. Quick Junior No. 240 with the original-style box, and I knew immediately I wanted it in our collectible case.

I guessed it was probably from the '80s.

Not even close. 😂

The Quick Junior goes all the way back to the 1950s.

We shook hands at $25 cash. We'll probably put $55 on it - although there's a decent chance I just keep it on display.

Al's Fishing Collection Just Keeps Getting More Interesting | Part 3

This time we get into boxes of striper and sturgeon tackle, saltwater hooks, weights, loose lures and some gear I’m still trying to identify.

And then, right in the middle of evaluating fishing tackle, Al pulls out a boat ladder.

“$10 cash?”

Done. 😂

This is what makes used fishing gear so much fun - everything is one of one.

We just picked up a small collection of vintage reels, including this beautifully engraved Pflueger Summit with its box. You could spool it up and fish it, or keep it on the shelf.

Also in the batch: a boxed South Bend No. 750 and a Pflueger Medalist 1494 fly reel.

Old gear, lots of character, and all of it ready for its next owner.

The Balancer Boys are back. Last time they sold out in 2 days.

Our first batch of Cohen’s Balancers sold out almost immediately, so he finally came back with 8 more - and this time they’re new and improved.

Thicker rebar. Higher step for softer ground. Better visibility of the rubber rod protection.

And since the first video generated a TON of questions, Cohen also gives us a proper demonstration of how the Balancer actually works.

The idea is pretty clever: your reel acts as part of the counterweight, the rod balances on the holder, and a fish pulling on your line creates a very noticeable movement. Great for those subtle sturgeon and striper bites that can otherwise be easy to miss.
