This is Senior.

Goofy Boy-Cat has been found. It seems he may never have left our carport and was located hiding in the pile of junk waiting to go to the dump this Saturday in the back of my truck. He was hungry, thirsty, and WAY freaked out, but he is fine. I repeat, Atticus is in the house!!!

ATTENTION! ATTICUS IS MISSING!

This is NOT a drill! Not a joke, or a sales pitch.

Our beloved tuxedo boy got out of the house somehow yesterday, probably between 7 and 9 p.m. He often tries to escape, but even if he gets out the door, we always know he's there, and we always catch him and put him inside.

We did not know he was missing until this morning, when he did not come into our bedroom for his usual morning pets and snuggles. We looked in all his usual sleeping spots in the house, calling his name, and he did not come. He is such an attention ju**ie that he would not stay hidden if he thought he could get loved on, so we are sure he is not hiding or sleeping anywhere inside.

I looked in the house that's under construction next door; no sign of him.

I put his bed and some food out on the porch by the front door, hoping he will smell them and find his way home. I keep thinking he is probably still in our neighborhood somewhere, but he might have wandered farther away. Senior drove around a while checking East Oak Lane and Tower Road; no luck.

Please be on the lookout and message us if you see him or take him in. He's such a sweetheart and such a 'people cat' that he'd go to just about anyone, especially if he was scared and hungry.

Sometimes, the story of where a book came from is almost as good as the book itself. That is true, in my opinion, of this set of vintage books.

The Junior Library was published by Books, Inc. in the 1930s and 40s and marketed to young families as a way to have good quality printings of all the great classics of literature in one multi-volume set. The former owner of this set told me her grandmother sold them door-to-door to supplement her teaching income.

For now, we'd like to keep them together as a set. If no one grabs them in the next few weeks, we will list them individually.

Please check the listing on the website for additional photos of the title pages of each book, as well as the inside covers and front flyleaves of some that have writing and a stamp-shaped sticker on them. The stamps match the title of the book.

Find them under Vintage, Classic, or New Arrivals.

"Watership Down" is a novel by Richard Adams. It is also a real place, not far from where the author grew up in the Downs (grassy hills) of Hampshire in England.

The story, which turned 54 years old this year, began as a series of musings about the adventures of a warren of rabbits that Adams used to entertain his two daughters on long car rides. The girls continued to pester their father to write the stories down until he finally relented and spent 18 months writing the book. Initially rejected by several publishers, it was finally given a chance by a one-man publisher, Rex Collings, who agreed to produce 2,500 copies, even though he wondered if he was 'mad' to take on a book about talking rabbits, one of whom had 'extra-sensory perception'.

Led by two brothers, Fiver and Hazel, a band of rabbits sets out across the English landscape to find a new home after theirs is destroyed by a construction project. Along the way, they encounter perils both natural and man-made, and eventually establish a new warren in Watership Down.
Adams has created an entire rabbit society, complete with language, culture, and even politics, making the book an allegory illustrating the classic struggles between reason and emotion, tyranny and freedom, and the individual and society as a whole.

Classic sci-fi from two of the best in the business.

"The Other Side of the Sky" is a collection of 24 short stories by Arthur C. Clarke that give readers a glimpse of a future where humans learn they are not alone in the universe, and embark on interplanetary adventures ranging from creepy to intriguing.

"Lucky Starr and the Big Sun of Mercury" is the fourth book in the six-book Lucky Starr series by Isaac Asimov. Writing as Paul French, Asimov created the series in the 1950s with the specific goal of interesting young readers in science and scientific careers. Science has marched on over the decades, and some of the facts Asimov took as gospel when he was writing these books have since become outdated information as new studies have continued to add to our knowledge of the cosmos. Even so, these are wonderful adventure stories that can still delight readers today.

Depending on how old you are, you first met him as Hans Gruber. Or maybe Alexander Dane, or the Sheriff of Nottingham, or perhaps Professor Snape.

No matter which character Alan Rickman was inhabiting, that's what he was doing -- LIVING them -- in vivid, unforgettable fashion.

"Madly, Deeply: The Diaries of Alan Rickman" is his private writings from 1993 to his death in 2016. (It's been 10 years already??!) By turns worldly, witty, and gossipy, it is utterly candid throughout. As I scanned several pages, I wasn't reading it as much as I was listening to him read it in my head. Oh, that voice...

Check the comments for a link to a trailer for one of his lesser-known films, one his diary reveals was dear to his heart. I stumbled upon it one afternoon on Netflix, took a chance, and fell in love with it. It's called "Bottle Shock," and Rickman plays wine critic Steven Spurrier. Not a documentary, but a dramatization of the true story of how Spurrier carried a wine from Chateau Montelena in California's Napa Valley to the 1976 Judgement of Paris blind wine tasting and subsequently set the wine-making world on fire.

Three women -- two famous, one virtually unknown -- all used their various talents to leave their mark on history.

Hedy Lamarr, beautiful and brilliant, escaped her marriage to an Austrian arms dealer who was friendly with Hi**er and Mussolini and found her way to Hollywood. While becoming a star of the silver screen, she hid a secret passion: science. Using her knowledge of the N***s' plans gained while at her former husband's side, she helped the Allies develop a weapon guidance system that was the precursor to Bluetooth and Wifi technology we use today.

"The Only Woman in the Room" by Marie Benedict is a fictionalized account based on Lamarr's real experiences.

Edith Head dressed most of the world's greatest motion picture stars over her sixty-year career in Hollywood. A born artist, she talked her way into a job in the wardrobe department of Paramount Studios in the 1920s and never looked back. She won an unprecedented eight Oscars for her designs.

Edith worked on her autobiography, "Edith Head's Hollywood," until she died in 1981. It was completed by journalist Paddy Calistro. The book contains dozens of Edith's sketches, as well as behind-the-scenes photographs from some of Hollywood's greatest films.

Betty Pack's name is not as well-known as the other two women but her contribution is no less significant. In "Cast No Shadow," Mary S. Lovell reveals the secrets Betty gathered using her singular method: seduction. Living in a marriage of convenience with a British career diplomat gave her access to the aristocratic world of international diplomacy and all of its intrigue. She had a knack for knowing which powerful men had the information her spymasters needed and how to seduce them to get it.

Strong, bold, and ahead of their time, all three women serve as inspiration for feminism today.

Two first-printing paperbacks from the master of horror himself, Stephen King.

Honestly, neither copy is in pristine condition, but both have held up well for being 39 ("It") and 47 ("The Shining") years old.

And every creepy word is still here to send shivers up your spine and make you sleep with the lights on...if you can sleep at all...

Wait...what was that noise? Did you hear something?

(help!)
