Well… today was rough. I flew solo while my wonderful husband went to work to make the dollaz, and the shelf install fought me every step of the way. I just knew something was off. But theres a saying you have not if you ask not so I reached out to my landlord, and they absolutely saved the day. It turned out perfect. Huge thank you to the wonderful people at Once & Again Mercantile. They have been so good to us, and you really need to come check them out.

We are getting ready for our Grand Opening this Saturday in Sand Springs, and it is going to be a big day. The Sand Springs Herbal Affair & Festival is happening this Saturday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM in downtown Sand Springs, rain or shine, with free admission and more than 100 vendors.

So come out, shop local, and stop in to see Expressive DeZien at Once & Again Mercantile . Or better yet, order from our website and pick up your order on Saturday.

We will have handmade, original design gifts, including stemless wine glasses, large beer mugs, small beer glasses, whiskey glasses, flasks, wine stoppers, rustic wedding glasses, traditional toasting glasses, journals, songwriter books, cute stickers, charcuterie boards, and wood spoons.

New blog is live.

With opening the Mini Shop, I’ve had to lean on out of house printers more than ever, and I was honestly shocked after a conversation I had Monday morning with a local printer. So much so I had to blog about it. It also made me wonder how many people get bad prints and think it’s their fault, or worse, just settle because of the bad information a “Professional Print Shop” told them was right.

One of two. The signs are coming together.

The copper in the word Expressive is unbelievable in person. Photos and video really do not capture the depth and richness of that color. Every piece of this sign was designed and built in house as we prepare the Expressive DeZien Mini Shop inside Once & Again Mercantile in Sand Springs. I may be a little biased but this might be the prettiest sign I have ever made.

I wish you could see the intensity of the copper in the word Expressive. Photos really do not capture how rich that color is. I wanted to take a moment to reach out to those of you who follow Expressive DeZien and share a small update from behind the scenes. Many people see the finished pieces, but not always the work that happens before they exist. Expressive DeZien is primarily run by me, and most days that means wearing a lot of different hats. I handle the designs, the website, product photography, listings, printed materials, packaging, and the day to day work that keeps everything moving. Clark helps when he can after his full time job, usually a couple hours in the evening, and that is when the sandblasting work happens. Every glass you see here is sandblasted by hand.

Right now my time is very full because we are in the middle of preparing inventory and getting everything ready for the opening of the Expressive DeZien MicroShop while also continuing to run the website. That means creating new designs for inventory, Clark sandblasting glassware, organizing products, preparing displays, working on printed materials, updating the website, and answering messages and orders as they come in. At the same time I’m also continuing to keep the Expressive DeZien Graphics side of the business going, which many people don’t realize is part of what I do.

Expressive DeZien is also moving through a season of growth and rebranding as the MicroShop comes together, and a lot of quiet work is happening behind the scenes to shape the next chapter of the business.

The heart of Expressive DeZien remains simple. My focus has always been to create functional art that people can be proud to use and display in their homes. Pieces that feel meaningful, well made, and personal.

For those of you who follow along with the journey, support the work, or have brought an Expressive DeZien piece into your home, please know that it truly means a great deal. Small businesses grow one piece and one person at a time, and I’m grateful for every person who has been part of that story.

Today I want to share something very personal.

The hummingbird and hibiscus design was inspired by my sister, Sharon. Purple was her favorite color and she loved flowers, especially morning glories and purple hibiscus. She also loved hummingbirds, and hummingbirds seemed to love her right back. They always found her.

I remember seeing her sitting on the porch swing and they would just flock and hover around her. One time she called me out to sit on the front porch with her. I had no idea why she called me out there. When I sat down she told me to be very still. As we sat there, the hummingbirds just fluttered all around us. The sound of their wings was incredible. Had I not been sitting there seeing it with my own eyes, I probably wouldn’t have believed it.

Hummingbirds have always felt like little messengers to me. Small, beautiful reminders of the people we love who are no longer here the way we wish they were.

Because of Sharon, the hummingbird became part of Expressive DeZien. The hummingbird in our logo is a memorial to my sister.

Today is Sharon’s birthday.
My sister was one of the strongest women I have ever known. But even the strongest people can face battles that strength alone can’t win. Sharon was taken far too soon by colon cancer, and not a day goes by that I don’t think about her.

March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month, and sharing this today is bittersweet. Colon cancer is one of those diseases people often don’t talk about enough. Screenings save lives. Early detection saves lives. If Sharon had been checked sooner, there is a very real chance she might still be here today.

I encourage every single person to schedule a screening, talk to your doctor, and take your health seriously.

Happy Birthday, Sharon.
You are loved, remembered, and missed every single day.
