Customer had brought in a phone I with the power button not working. I opened the phone to inspect and the cable for the power button was somehow severed. After searching dozens of sources, I was unable to find a replacement power button for the phone. So I offered an emergency solution to the customer of removing the shielding over the trace lines of the cable and run jumper lines to reconnect where it was severed. The repair was successful and the customer has a working power button and phone again.

Customer brought in an iPad that wasn’t charging. After running diagnostics, the IC chip was faulty and needed to be replaced. Just to show the size of some of the board components we work with or repair, the chip on the left is next to a dime under my microscope. One of the other pictures shows all of the solder connections under the chip that make contact with the board. The IC chip was replaced and the iPad is taking a charge again.

The work I see from other repair shops around me never ceases to me. The lack of concern for customer devices for the money some of these other places charge??? This is a screen replacement on an iPhone XR. There are 13 screws to remove to perform this repair. A previous shop put 5 of those screws back in the wrong place and 1 screw is missing completely. Putting the incorrect screws in the wrong place can cause long screw damage or the screw can easily come loose because it doesn’t fit properly. Long screw damage can happen because the incorrect screw in the wrong place is longer than the correct screw and the canal it screws into. The screw can go beyond the canal and into the board which can sever trace lines and connections within a board circuit. Long screw damage can cause severe and potentially unrecoverable damage to a device board. If a screw were to become loose or fall out of an incorrect canal, it could puncture the battery or wedge itself in a place where damage can happen easier. iRepair cares. Other places don’t seem to as much. I see things like this several times a month. Just want to try bringing awareness to customers that some repair shops do things because they’re sloppy, not properly trained, or think it won’t matter because they’re sloppy customer won’t see it.

DON’T LET THIS BE YOUR PHONE! Customer had taken their phone to another repair shop to have the back glass replaced and the shop used double sided tape to secure the glass. They also put packing tape over the wireless charging coil and MagSafe magnets. The glass is glued from the factory, not taped. There was nothing holding it down around the rear cameras.

We got it fixed correctly and cleaned up the previous mess!
