🐦‍⬛🕯️ Edgar Allan Poe passed away 177 years ago today, on October 7, 1849.

During his brief and troubled life, Poe created some of literature’s most unforgettable nightmares. Beating hearts beneath floorboards, premature burials, crumbling mansions, black cats and ravens became enduring symbols of fear through the power of his imagination.

Poe never received the recognition or financial security his work deserved during his lifetime. Today, readers celebrate him as a foundational figure in gothic horror, psychological suspense and detective fiction.

His life ended far too soon, but the darkness he placed on the page still speaks to every generation. 📚🖋️🐦‍⬛
