A year ago a conversation between two creatives bore an idea of repurposing worn out and unworn tshirts into yarn for a public art piece (pieces🤓😉). Today with the help of two of my kiddos, Kira, Parker (not pictured ) and Jessica Brutal Doodles
we started “Operation Yarn Garden”

Today, my heart is full.

I had a sweet customer ask for black and red on our cotton merino so I dyed up a couple just for her.
I was feeling inspired to get into the rainbow

are the 80/20 fine sw merino & baby alpaca base 100g, 191yd, 2ply worsted

2 skeins mordant in ALUM, tanned with myrobalan, dyed with onion skin

1skein mord ALUM, tanned w/myrobalan, dyed in onion skin exhaust

2skeins mord ALUM, dyed in onion skin

1skein mord in ALUM, dyed w/ myrobalan

1skein mord in ALUM, tanned w/ myrobalan, dyed in sappanwood

1skein mord in ALUM and copper, tanned w/myrobalan and dyed in sappanwood

1 skein mord ALUM, dyed in sappanwood exhaust

These skeins were processed over the past 4 days. They are very special each in their own unique way. I am so grateful to be able to offer these to The Untwisted Fibre community at the same accessible price as all of our other 100gram skeins. 🙏🏻✌🏻🫶🏻🧶

First batch of Botanically dyed yarns available at Sioux City Farmers Market tomorrow, 5/30 8-1!

This is a really fun batch of lots of technique learning by me, and lots of beautiful color variations.

These are all of the 50/50 fine sw merino & pima cotton skeins

as pictured bottom to top:

3 skeins scoured w/soda ash(necessary for cellulose fibers to take dye) & ph neutral soap
mordant in ALUM
tanned w/myrobalan, dyed in onion skin bath

1skein scoured in soda ash/soap , mordant ALUM, dyed in onion skin exhaust bath

1skein scoured in soda ash/soap, mordant in ALUM, tanned w/myrobalan, dyed in sappanwood

1skein scoured in soda ash/soap, mordant in ALUM and copper, tanned w/myrobalan, dyed in sappanwood

2skeins scoured in soda ash/soap, mordant in ALUM, dyed in sappanwood exhaust bath.
