Vinyl keeps selling while unsold copies pile up by the thousands, so Warner Music Group pulled around 10,000 of them and sent them to a Czech plant that ground the discs down and pressed them into new records at six recycled blends.

Seven experts at Abbey Road Studios listened blind across two rounds, and on average, the scores barely moved. And what that average hides is that the flaw the panel caught didn't spread evenly.

It showed up clearly on some genres and albums and vanished on the rest, so whether a recycled record sounds clean to you comes down to what tends to be on your shelf.

But recycled vinyl is happening, and many are calling it the future.
