Most discipline referrals don’t start with defiance.
They start with missing vocabulary.

When students don’t have the language to explain what happened, situations escalate.
When they do, conversations replace consequences.

Students solve more.
Referrals decrease.

That’s literacy + leadership in action.

Many classroom conflicts don't start with bad intentions. They start with poor communication.

When children know what to say, they're more likely to solve small problems respectfully and keep learning.

Instead of reacting with:
❌ "Be quiet!"

Teach them to say:
✅ "I wasn't finished talking."

One sentence can change the direction of an entire conversation.

What respectful phrase do you wish every child learned in elementary school?

Behavior problems don't always start with bad intentions.

Many start because students don't have the language to solve everyday conflicts.

When children learn how to express frustration, set boundaries, solve disagreements, and ask for help, classrooms become calmer, instruction time increases, and students build confidence.

That's why I created the Bullying vs. Conflict™ instructional framework—to give students the words they need before small conflicts become bigger problems.

Most body safety conversations focus on strangers.

But many children who experience inappropriate touching already know the person.

That's why body safety should begin with everyday interactions. Children need to know they have the right to say, "Stop," "I don't like that," and tell a trusted adult when something doesn't feel right.

Remember:

💙 It's more important to be safe than to be nice.

When children know their voice matters, they're better prepared to protect themselves.

✨ What if your child is taught to be kind... but not to be safe?

Kindness is important.

But children also need to know it's okay to:
🛑 Say no.
🗣️ Speak up.
🏃 Get away.
❤️ Tell a trusted adult.

One simple conversation can help a child recognize unsafe situations and know what to do.

Because being safe is more important than being kind.

When a behavior is repeated and targeted, the situation changes.

Exclusion can become harm when it’s patterned.

Frequency matters.
Impact matters.

Many children are taught to watch out for strangers.

But body safety is about much more than "stranger danger."

The reality is that uncomfortable touches can sometimes come from people children already know and trust.

That's why children need to understand that they have the right to:

✔️ Say "Stop"

✔️ Walk away

✔️ Trust their feelings

✔️ Tell a trusted adult

Teaching body safety isn't about creating fear.

It's about helping children recognize boundaries, use their voice, and know that their feelings matter.

Most importantly, children should know:

Being safe is more important than being polite.
